A local mall holds weekend chess competitions. This was taken while two people played a game on the giant chess board.

Odd setting, I can't relate. There's a lot of dead space in the image.

Castled?

I like it, but there's too much empty space on the right

Like the idea. I'm not sure if I like all the blank space to the right.

I would have like to see people in this shot (at the mall).

nice angle

Interesting choice of framing - What made you choose it?

Great idea! Somehow, every time I look at this shot I try to scroll to see the top of the photo, and then realize that it's landscape and I already see the top. Have you tried doing this one in portrait format? WIth less of the mall floor on the right side but more background up top? Does that work?

I looked and looked at this picture...Tried to figure out how to crop it differently so you didn't see so much of the floor. Realized that in order to show the size of these peices you had to leave it. The wall in the background is kind of distracting to me.

you can only just tell it is a large chess set, someone there would've helped

Too many distractions.

How fun. Are those people size?
05/20/2002 01:48:00 PM
I wish this was....something, sorry - don't know what it 'needs' just seems dull to me, maybe it's the b&w or the lighting - nifty how they are so large in size though.

composition poor

the bench is a little distracting

I think something to show the scale other then the bench would of helped here.
Very cool just the same.

This is an interesting photograph... I like black and whites. I am asking myself why you may have chosen to have the chess pieces only on the left side of the photograph. Did you consider taking a photo of the entire board? The bench in the background indicates to me that these are rather large chess pieces! Do people actually play chess on this set? I think I would have liked to see this shot with more chess pieces in the photo and less empty space on the right... Good job!

it would have been nice to get this shot without the bench and door in the background
