Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Hi Pinback...

The detail and lighting in this image do a wonderful job of enhancing the 'flavor' in this photo. The closeup view gives me the ability to 'smell' this chocolate and it looks delicious :)

As I mentioned in my earlier comment, I think there could be several different lighting options for this photo and I wonder if you have explored any of those during this shoot?

The only issue I see with this photo is the background... there is a visible crease in the background, but it's very subtle... I think a minor level adjustment would clear that right out without losing much at all...

Keep up the great work :)

Thanks for all the comments.

For all those who asked, these are Cadbury's Flake bars (actually, the shortened '99' version which are for putting in ice cream). Setup was a stack on my kitchen workstop with a single halogen light to the right. I agree with those comments which suggested the light should have been more from the front than it is - I ran out of time.

Flakes are readily available in the UK. In the US, you can order them from British Delights. (I have no affiliation with this company and have never used them.)

Do you buy those or make them, maybe with a cheese plane?

I love the idea, but it just doesn't come across in the photo, for me. For the most part, focus is good. I like the texture, the composition and the use of negative space. I think the chocolate needed just a bit more light on the subject, from the front, to make the shot have a little more impact.

This looks tasty :) I think some different lighting configurations would help enhance the textures and shapes here .... nice work :) - setzler

One of the few candy photos this week that make me want to eat the candy. So where can I get some? You make it look delicious and mysterious with your wonderful lighting and point of view.

Very cool, interesting, delicate candy! I like the lighting on the right, maybe using two lights from opposite sides? Very good detail!! 8 Rob the Swash

i think maybe the lightingof this picture should have been about 5 oclock to lighten up the edges for detail. nice shot otherwise. doesn't look like any chocolate i am used to seeing. what is it?
