I tried to stay away from emotinal darkness, and evil, so this is what I came up with. I wanted it to be a sort of light at the end of the tunnel idea. Darkness wouldn't exist without lightness and vice versa.

I had a hard time capturing the flame with out getting pixels when I put it on screen. This was the best I could do.

I put a large black frame around it to reduce the size of the candle (pixel problem) without reducing the size of the whole picture and stay within editing rules.

Post: To everyone who commented, Thank you for the heads up on monitor calibration. I'm currently working on it, but having some problems. Yes there is a huge assymetrical border around the picture to get the composition what I wanted it w/o making the picture pixely. To everyone, if you can't see it, fix your monitor!

This is an acceptable idea for this challenge.

It is easy to see why this image required validation. It looks as though you have rigged the image to reposition it on the image by adding a huge border or something.

However, that is not the real issue. If you had simply increased the contrast so there would be no small greyish square containing the candle it would not have shown up at all and nobody would have questioned the entry. That is a major image flaw and a big distraction for the viewer that will cause it to get a low score.

So did you add the "frame" to improve the composition? When I look at my monitor at an angle, I don't see the interior box and like the shot.

A slightly faster capture might have reduced the halo, but less of the candle would have shown up... Choices choices. Good composition, and meets the challenge nicely. 6

I can clearly see the black background around this photo, not saying this photo is bad. In fact I love this one, but you need to make sure that your added in blackness matches the the blackness of the photos bacground. try cloning the the bacground or somehitng to fill in the rest of the needed space and you'll have a winner.

Your cropping isn't very smooth...

If you really have to enlarge your canvas by adding a huge border, you should at least calibrate your monitor before you do so. There is a visible difference between the original frame (which is too bright) and the pure black border which you added. 3.
