Thanks everyone. I had to wait several minutes for the guy to stop watching what I was doing. I didn't want him looking straight into the lens. The crop was a little forced in that there is a load of 20th century crap just out of frame which really cluttered up any other crop.
The difference in contrast is due to the smoke from another traction engine just up wind.
Once again thanks for the comments, much appreciated. |

Nice choice to include the pipe-smoking engineer, faded into the distance. Nice tension between man and machine. |

If it weren't for editing rules I ask that the background and man be less gray. Nice photograph. I'd like to see this in the top 5. |

Nice shot though I find the left side to be a bit too bright ... |

The clutter in the trailor behind the gent is distracting but somewhat forgivable given the clarity of the steam engine itself and the composition. Black and white was the way to go on this capture. Well done. Rate: 9 |

A great entry with that 'yester-year' feel to it. For some reason my eyes are constantly drawn to the man as the subject though. I'm not sure why that is - possibly because of the tonal range on that side of the photo. The photo has been flawlessy executed though - with both near and far objects nice and sharp. |

The manin the background is the perfect detail to this shot. It wouldn't be the same without him. |

wooonderful image. nostalgic, reflective, and the cool monotone just helps to support all of it too. it's too bad such beautiful old trains like that are obsolete!
