What can I add to this list of congratulations? Disagree with Dr Achoo for once, think the soft focus not only lends strength to this photo, but I think it would lose a great deal with a sharper focus. LOVE IT, I think it is your best, but I know, that is I M O !!! LOL

This is a fantstic shot; wonderful cropping and texture to create a "medieval" or "at least "pre-christian" look. The pose is perfect; its reverent yet suggestive, This would be the way to "genuflect" for lack of a better term, to the pagan god: earth herself.

What really is best here, besides the perfectly orchestrated nudity, is the way the top of the photo looks like a Pollock painting, with the white from behind the trees above the figures head seems to compete with the shadow in front, always leaving the viewer with the struggle to decide which is primary and in front.
This is your best shot, its really great.

this is quite captivating. like you're truly enjoying the peacefulness of being alone, possibly praying to a private god.

the original contents of this comment have been deleted, as I have just learned that I'm a ninnyhammer. Instead, I'll ask you a question: are you planning on revisiting this kind of setup any time soon? I'd love to see this explored further.

Congrats on your new high score! I gave you a 9. Never had a chance to comment on all the shots as I wanted. :-(

I like it, but feel that maybe the color version would make her stand out more.

the idea is great, and the scenery is lovely. but. too much tree, not enough model.

Try dodging and burning a bit to focus attention on your subject. Great concept.

So much tree, so little nude ;-)

Interesting nude shot, very unobtrusive, yet original. I would have liked to see a little more light on the subject. And you could have gone a little closer on the crop. I do like the format of the picture though.

Great concept, but I think it may have bee taken during not the best time of day for the shot. The model is almost lost in the clutter of the tree branches and leaves. The lighting adds to the effect. If there wasn't so much light coming through the trees it would subue them a little and help the eye linger on the model a little more. Nice composition that was well thought out. I would love to see this reshot at a different time of day!

Good toning, exposure control and idea. I keep wishing that there was something to really make the model stand out more within the composition but I don't know what to suggest. I keep thinking color would be better.

This is very nicely done. If I were to do anything to this it would be to possibly crop a little off the top.

In some ways, very lovely, and in some, very distracting. There is so much "busyness" in the image that I find my eyes constantly being drawn to the branches/bushes/ground. The model is lovely, and the lighting on her is beautiful, but I guess I'd like to see more model, less distraction.

okay...where are her wings?

suggest adding some wings in PS and selling as PRINT/GREETING CARD

Lovely shot. THis is one of my favorites. I slightly question the use of black and white. I'd love to see this shot in color as well. I'm certain that the reduction to fit to DPC standards hurt you the most, as her details, as well as those in the leaves and trees are lost. I think those items being restored, may have been a higher score. Hopefully I'm wrong. :)

This is realy nice. I am a sucker for outdoor images which can be very hard. I like how you have got the subject fully in the shade without any direct sunlight on her. Composition, exposure are also great. 8

Seductive, I felt there was a little too much tree , sort of drew your eyes up too far away from the subject. colr was good choice.

One of my favorites this challenge. I love the environment in which the nude is shot. Very classic and classy. I love that the model is in the shadow, and of course her position is very alluring. Wonderful details in the hair: I wish we could see the image larger to truely appreciate it. I salute your choice of not cropping closer, even though it would have been tempting because of the poor 640 pixels limit size that we get on DPC. 9

I like the composition and the black and white tones of this image. I find the background/bush/leaves what have you very distracting and their lightness almost overwhelms the subject. I think with better lighting that distraction would be lessened. Extremely creative for the challenge. 7 - Good luck in the challenge!

Beautifully composed shot. I would like to see a little less "busy-ness in the trees/woods (less shrubbery and more distinct trees - so to speak), but the pose and crop is perfect.

I like this but feel you could have left out the top half or more to bring your subject matter more into the feel of the photo. I love the lighting and the woman is beautiful!

distracting background and sharpness could have been better. But one great idea, wonder how this would have looked in color?

The trees are very distracting IMHO. A closer crop may have worked better. 7

Good lighting of the model and she has an interesting pose. The trees, though mostly blown out, are still pretty distracting to me. Their branches offer a strange (but good) framing of the model, but they are pretty chaotic. Maybe a shallow DOF could blur them out enough so they don't compete with the subject for attention.

Very pretty picture. Love the light and all the trees around her, great hair on the model for this shot. My favorite so far!

I really like this image. The model seems quite sensual (from what I can see) She just seems a little lost in the busy background.... Maybe a little tighter cropping and a little more light would help put more emphasis on her.

I like the composition. The model is a little ill defined. It's difficult, for example, to tell where her breast ends and where the background begins. In a nude that is undoubtedly a point of focus and should be free of technical difficulties.

Lovely capture, very soft and surreal. I like the shading. The textures and interplay of light and shadow are very nice. Very well done!

I love the idea but I've got to say I would like it better in color with lots of green in the trees, it would feel more Gaia...

This is a very special image. it works on so many levels. My only wish is that there were just a tad more light on the model to see a little more of the features of her face. Unfortunately, in this small format those lovely details tend to become lost. I bet it looks fabulous in a larger scale. The trail of light on the ground is also a very nice addition to the photo. 8

Very wood nymph-esque. I think you could crop out part of the top and still have the same effect so that she would be larger in the shot. Having her in shadow is nice - I wish the image were larger.

I think you could have cropped much off the top of this image and the dark tones aren't nearly as dark as I'd like them to be (which I understand happens with sepia a lot) the model is posed perfectly- very wistful.

I bet this photo would make a fabulous poster. I'ts well composed and lit, and the concept is great. But when it's only 640 pixels tall, it leaves me wishing you had made the model a larger part of the frame. Then the contrast between her smooth skin and the tangle of plants would have been more obvious.

Another very nice outdoorsie image, the only problem with this one is that the model is so far away, its difficult to see her. Too much landscape, not enough of the model, who appears to be a real beauty. Wishing you had been closer while still including the landscape. <5>

I think the pose is absolutely fantastic, and the setting is nice too. But I think that so much of the branches above your model is a bit excessive. I would have preferred to see maybe a square or even 8x10 veritical crop where your beautiful model and pose could take more of the attention.

08/22/2005 12:27:58 AM
i feel the branches are distracting and taking away from the model. I think a slight guassian blur could have been applied to them or you could have zoomed in closer on the model. Otherwise good job shooting an outdoor nude, it is rare to see such a type of shot.
