The subject is just boring to me. Not something I'd hang on my wall and not really something that captivates my attention for long at all. I guess it just doesn't have the wow factor for me.
The DOF is ok, but I think it creates some soft areas within the focused areas and therefor is distracting.
Color is also a little bland. The branch itself is dark, the background is dark and the branch thingy just doesn't jump out of the photo the way I would like to see it.
I think the way you composed the shot with the subject to the left and the negative space to the right is a good idea. This helps to create balance within the photo and offers the opportunity for good composition.
While this is really a close up of something really tiny, it looks like a far away shot of something larger. With this vision in my head, I want to see the tiny branches close and with more detail. Since the viewer has no sense of scale here, it appears that we are not getting much detail of this object what so ever.
Knowing though that it's just a small thing, you can tell, but not knowing, you can't. If that makes sense.
Overall, I'm just not drawn in.

I like the DOF, the composition, the lighting and how it works with the background. Technically I think it's a great shot. However, the subject on it's own has no wow factor. Put a bug in there or water drops or something to give it more interest maybe?

1. no
2. somewhat from the title
3. neither
4. I would crop 30% from the left side

overall, i think this is a good technical shot, but definitely would appreciate more DOF. It seems that the focus is a little tight, and pushes alot of the "branches" out of focus. but when dealing with such a tight macro, I can appreciate the difficulty. lighting is good, there is some slight burning on one of the limbs (middle right)
I think in this case, all of the negative space is actually detracting a bit from the shot. I'm not sure if a white background would have helped, but I think the black pulls some of the punch out of the greens.

Some of the branches are a little blurry. Not very interesting if you look at it for a while, but it's a nice picture.

Portrait of a branch...slight increase of exposure...I like it

The crop could be tighter to concentrate on the sharply focused branches.

They look like their reaching for a sun that isn't there....cool. I bit blurred in the top left, but I like the open area on the right a lot. Nice Job.
