Thanks for the inspiration mav.
Thanks to everyone who gave me positive (and negative) feedback on the high-key exposure. I'm happy with it despite the score I got and I'm glad others liked it as well. To explain a bit why I used it: I was doing logos for a surfshop so I wanted as few colors as possible as well as a background that cut into it naturally from the light. Also, the effect gave the waves much more definition. I edited out the other surfers floating in another version, but I couldn't do that for the challenge. I think it's funny that some people commented that it was very good for "sound" while others said that it didn't meet the challenge. Oh well.

I love the highkey in this, and the middle surfer is great, not sure how I feel about the other two with their backs to us though, makes the composition seem a bit cluttered and off. 6

Totally washed out highlights... but it works in this photo! When my highlights are blown in my entries, I get picked apart for it... hope it doesn't happen to you - this is a really unique image that's interestingly composed and nicely conveys the sound of the waves.

looks way over exposed to me...unless that was your intention

Mmm... while I agree waves goes with the topic, the ones in this are a little on the wimpy side and the presence of the surfers ends up being distracting because of it. More background waves of a larger sort -- or even waves crashing over the boarding surfers' heads -- would have helped this impression. Also the extreme brightness of the shot really washes out the majority of the waves.

il ike it. you're going to get hammered for the overexposure, even though you probably meant it. they don't like that here. I like high key images though.

Too much brighness, or contrast, or something.

The waves make sound and if the subject of the picture was a wave crashing on a rock, then that would portray sound. Sound is lost as a subject in this picture. The surfer adds too much action to the feeling of the challenge.

good photo for sound... i'm not sure why you chose to overexpose...

This picture seems to portray action more than sound in my opinion. Therefore, as an action shot, it is done well. It is nicely focused and I like the reflection of the surfer in the water. I'm not sure as I like the over-exposed look. I would like to have seen some detail of the waves on the right.
