Camera: Kodak DX4530
Location: Riverwalk, downtown San Antonio
Date: Oct 8, 2005
Aperture: Auto
ISO: Auto
Shutter: Auto

Took this at one of my favorite places to celebrate, The Riverwalk. I used my auto settings. Afterwards I croped, palanced the color, enhanced the contrast, saturation, and texture.

Cute dog but 2 things don't seem right: expression in the eyes is more of a plea and the nose is very dominant which doesn't help. Looks a bit over-exposed too.

Ugly dog. ;)

Not a real clear connection to the challenge in my opinion.
Flash/lighting is too harsh, causing the highlights to be blown out. Image overall lacking detail / sharpness. (4)

Hmmm - dogs cats and kids - a lethal trio at DPC.
Pet shots have to be something really special to make it, and to be honest this one isn't in that small select few.

Take a good look at this and ignore that its your pet. Just imagine you were not emotionally attached to the dog. What do you see?
Its a snap, face on, flat lighting, blown highlights probably taken with an onboard flash which tends to give this effect.

Try an image using some directional light from a window without the flash, you will see such a big difference. My guess is you are running at around 4 to 5, and thats probably fair.

oh my! that would be a big ol' sloppy kiss! i love the expression--he looks so gosh darned happy to see you! i would love to see this shot taken with the lighting set at an angle to the subject and camera, and with richer color tones. it looks like the flash is affecting the eyes in the shot, and the dog (dark fur, white fur, and tongue) appears to be bleached out just a bit by the lighting.

Animals are a cause for celebration (for me) as they offer unconditional love. The flash is a bit too bright and his poor eyes are glowing. Sweet dog though.

I like all dog photo's, however it is too blown out at the bottom.

Too overexposed on the whites. Takes away any depth and makes it look like a snapshot.

Try focusing on one of his eyes rather than his nose. Also I'm guessing this won't resonate with much of your audience as a "celebration" picture. If you had a shot of him (or her) playing, running, leaping, being joyful then a dog might make a good subject.

If I were taking this picture, I would have tried to focus on the eyes and increased the depth of field. Also it looks to be a bit over exposed. I bet if you give him a few biskets, he would probably pose for you again! Nice looking dog!
