Zoomer... congrats on a fine image and placement in this challenge. Yours is the highest placing black and white in this challenge. Great to see an Oregonian image do well! I might be up that way in May and try to catch up with you either in Oregon or in Spokane. That would be fun!

Good luck trying to find a safe place to land. Those look like crazy waters. Nice job capturing it. I wonder how something like this would look with a long exposure. |

Wow - awesome capture. The darker midtones could be pumped up a tad and perhaps sharpened just to bring them out a little efrom the waves (I'm just saying this because i think it is exquisite and worthy of a poster so you should definitely put it up for sale). Nice work 8 |

Returning to update comment as i never really commented on the image before.
Good range of tones in this BW. The sense of action is aazing and it is this that should see this place near the top.
Good luck again.

Possibly my favorite image of the challenge. It has great drama. It's a right-place-right-time photo. Very nice light levels. Good composition although the bird didn't fully understand the rule of thirds. I am not generally a fan of B&W (If God had intended us to shoot B&W, He wouldn't have invented Kodachrome!) but it works very well here. Well done! |

the seagule makes this shot. Had he/she/it not been there, it would have make the shot borring. Another nitpick, the dodging above it is too obvious...or maybe you didn't even dodge and now i look like a fool for thinking that i know what i'm talking about hehehe. 7 |

It almost looks too dangerous for him to land anywhere. To catch not only the waves crashing upwards but to also get his wings at the top like that is phenomenal. Great shot. |

Dynamic photo! Full range of B/W tonal zones; with a lovely chiastic pattern (an X pattern) of upper left (white) to lower right (black) and upper right (dark) to lower left (light), with the seabird (black) upon the white breakers...genius! Clarity of focus, great aperture setting, and such wonderful movement. The energy is felt rather than seen. A sheer delight! 10 |

Oh great capture! Love how the waves are crashing on the rocks as this single lone seabird searches for a safe perch. Either that or it has taken flight from the rocks to avoid the crashing waves. I like the B&W presentation of this action shot for I feel that the power of the waves and the action going on would have been diminished had this been in color. Color could sometimes call attention away from the main subject. It is strongly possible that the white/grey hues on the seabird would have been lost in the white foam of the crashing waves. Here the action/scenery is dramatic with the two tones bringing out and hightlighting the scene for the viewer to enjoy. |
