I'm sorry. New voting structure strikes again. I didn't leave this comment on your image. I put it on a different image and it ended up on yours. I wonder you weren't confused as to why i would post that to your image. Again, sorry. |

From the Critique Club:
Composition: I think the composition is excellent, but I also think that it is the kind of composition that is going to get a lot of mixed reactions. One of the mother's eyes is "cut off", and that is going to bother a lot of people. The only thing visible of the child is the hair, and that, again, is going to bother a lot of people. But for your presentation, the composition is excellent.
Technical: Again, very good work. The only addition that might help is a catchlight in the eye.
Post-processing: Beautiful! I see no problems with it.
Challenge: It meets the challenge topic well, actually right on. You got quite a good score for it, although probably not as high as you wished. I think what hurt is the mixed reactions the photo produces - too many people hung up on the close crop.
Hope this helps.

I like the concept, but I'm just not comfortable seeing only the top of the child's head. I would really like to see his/her face. To me, the whole issue of mother/child is the interaction between the two, and this just doesn't convey it adequately for me. |

I have come back to this picture repeatedly. Mom's eyes are captivating. I see love, contentment, and even a little melancholy as she imagines her child growing up and these moments ending.
This is art. Congratulations. |

Cute and emotive. Would have liked to have also seen the childs face, but I understand given the theme is mother the focus should be on her. It's very nice. |

Your crop is to close it is not flatering for the mother. plus it is always nice to see highlights in the eyes it makes your subject more alive, you don't have any. It could have been a really sweet moment with a little tweeking. Nice attempt and still better than lots that I have seen |

The mother's expression looks almost sorrowful to me. I like the tonal values you chose. I wonder how it would look if you pulled back a bit and showed the child's face as well. |

love the shot...perhaps the crop is a little too tight. getting the other eye in would have been a better option in my opinion |
