 I went to the zoo specifically to shoot the tigers with the edge of their fur illuminated by the sun. It didn't work out. As we were leaving, the kids wanted to see the prairie dogs. AHA! If I had gone there to begin with, I probably could have captured a better pose, but the sun was fading and the zoo was closing at that point. Still, I like the detail and I got the trans-illuminated fur I wanted.

Shot at about 210mm on a monopod. Processing: a little Neat Image, crop and slight rotation, Levels, Unsharp Mask (boosted the color overall, but pulled back on the blues) and Channel Mixer for a bit more punch.

DOF and backlight do a nice job of highlighting the subject. Not a very interesting composition, or context - perhaps you could have made more of the backlit leaves and grass in the foreground as a compositional part of the image?

Quite a sweet photo with a lot of cuteness (in my opinion at least!). A bit of lens flare above the neck which distracts me and maybe a tighter crop would have helped.

I like this little fella! You really made him stand out with good use of backlight.
