I didn't color in her eyes. They were that dark. See was about 100yds from me too. While I wish it was brighter, this is my favorite picture from this year.

I liked this picture alot and I dont see why any one could say this is by far the worst lion shot in that challenge... It was one of my favorits and one shot that I could never get and some of the people that didnt like it couldnt get a good shot like this.

Since you called out my comment (I don't mind) I figured I'd give you a little follow up.

So it was all done in camera... incorrect assumption on my point, but there's still something wierd going on here.

Typically if you move the camera and your subject is stationary, relative to the background, then everything will be blurry. If you pan with a moving subject, then the subject should sharp (or close to it) and the background will be blurred.

You have a bit of each... the background is blurred, the body is blurred, but the head is far less blurred than the rest of it. That's why I assumed it was done in PP. You could explain this by the lion walking toward the photographer, head on, but then you'd expect to see some vertical blur, as the lion's head moved up in the frame.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that this shot confuses me, and beliles what I know about motion and photography. But I guess it's not suprising that there's something out there that I haven't seen before.

Seems like people loved it or hated it. :) Thanks for all of the comments. These helped a lot.

I expected to finish better considering I lost an arm trying to get this shot... Just kidding. :) Yes, I shot this from about 150ft at the zoo.

Actually, nothing was added to this photo. For me, that is what made it special. I did brighten it up a little but other than that...this is the original.

I know that you have called this lioness on the move, but the picture does not seem to have a huge impact to me, as there is too much motion.

Wow, she is moving, coming right for you.....

nice attempt, but can not give detailed critique due to way to much blur.

The motion seems excessive on this shot - imho. Would like to see more detail in the face of the lioness, especially the eyes. I feel that the eyes really need to be sharp as they convey a message.

The motion blur is very effective here but I feel the contrast is a little flat. Adding more would have helped I think :)

Great action shot. The blur of the motion really adds character to this shot! Good job!

love the way this was taken. Love the noise and the movement. Not sure many will appreciate it. 8 - good luck in the challenge!

good focus on the face, but it could have been sharper (but obviously hard to do seeing how the lion does pose hehe). too bad the colours are so bland.

I like that it's different. The motion blur really works, and the sense of energy is fantastic. It could use some work in the color/contrast, as it looks a little flat, grey and dull in that. The lion's fur especially. A little too much red in areas, where just a little work could have given it the golden hue that would have helped sell.. The greens are also just a little grey and flat.

Almost ghostlike! The color seems a little off - a bit purple on her face, but I like the motion.

A little too blurry for me, too bad you couldn't get her face more in focus

The first thought that went through my mind when I saw this was one of those "Last picture taken by the photographer" type photographs. You have certainly captured the sense of movement & energy of this lioness.

A different style photo from what I'm used to seeing here on DPC. It has a wonderful soft motion and intensity to it. It's refreshing to see.
