wau...gaining in vote every day...so, if mr.p. decides to evaporate another country then we will have this pic winning for sure...just the perfect time to leave this site...
10/21/2005 07:23:36 PM
Rainbow colors of brainwashness are obviously bringing patriotic vote ...what about if we only and just enjoy colors and photography without transmitting any nonsense messages ?
10/08/2005 01:39:06 AM
i dislike the title, good concept though
10/05/2005 07:59:32 PM

03/28/2005 10:22:55 PM

Great photo! I love it. I'm fairly new to the DPChallenge, I was browsing through some of the old contests and your photo stood out from all the others.
04/28/2003 01:52:59 PM
Wonderful idea.... well done.
04/05/2003 03:48:50 AM
wow. brilliant! nice, clear tutorial, too. i'm gonna do my own flag and use it for my desktop wallpaper.
02/07/2003 09:03:32 PM

07/13/2002 07:29:00 PM

07/12/2002 10:22:00 PM
This is one of the few 10's I have ever given. This is top notch, excellente', I wish I did it...tehehehe. I'd love to know just how you did this.
07/09/2002 02:30:00 PM
YA!!this is definataly becoming my favorite phot. I would love to have more details about its birth and grouth into what you were finnally able to capture.

How did you use lighting, what was the angle in respect of the flag to the mirror, to the cammera. My i say again. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!! joshua_2415volcano.net
07/08/2002 08:43:00 PM
Mousie is the one that promised pizza :))
07/08/2002 04:01:00 PM
Echoing the many platitudes. A seriously excellent photo, and another very well-deserved win. And not only is it one of the highest scoring photos, it's probably the greatest margin of victory yet... not that those things matter. ;?)
07/08/2002 03:45:00 PM
John, congrats on the well-deserved win. Looking forward to that pizza (see below).
07/08/2002 01:00:00 PM
One word... great job!
07/08/2002 10:50:00 AM
oh yeah, btw, you know the rule: one more 1st place win and you have to buy everyone on the site PIZZA : ) : )
07/08/2002 09:57:00 AM
wow, this must be one of the highest (the highest?) scores ever. and very well deserved. good job, john! :)
07/08/2002 09:32:00 AM
Congratulations on first place!!!!
07/08/2002 08:30:00 AM
kick a$$ pic, john. was too busy during the week to comment, but a well-deserved ribbon for you : )
07/08/2002 06:58:00 AM
Hi, I'd like to explain my reasoning for giving this a low mark (I gave a 3, which I admit is a bit low).
1. Its not that original. A very similar shot of water on a leaf won a couple of weeks ago. One comment suggests that this technique was shown practical photography very recently.
2. Its not that technically difficult. You have complete control of the subject. Its a bit like painting by numbers, gives good results for a mimimum of effort.
3. It panders to patriotism, without actually saying anything about it. If the flag was in a patriotic context (parade, cemetary, etc) then thats OK, but I would really have prefered to be able to judge this without having to consider whether the use of the flag was cynical or not (BTW, I am British).
07/08/2002 04:47:00 AM
Mr. Setzler, great, great stuff!
07/08/2002 01:14:00 AM
great shot John...Congrats!!!
07/08/2002 01:01:00 AM
looky looky who got the big win!!! congrats, a great image at perfect time
07/08/2002 12:45:00 AM
Congrats John!!! I truly loved this shot even before I knew it was yours..lol....but I should have known!! This is gonna be added to my favorites...
07/08/2002 12:41:00 AM
Great job John! What a wonderful shot! I missed voting this week I would have scored this image high. How could seven people score this a 1....I don't get it..... A job well done!
07/08/2002 12:39:00 AM
Congratulations, John! Way to go! Outstanding!!!
07/08/2002 12:27:00 AM

great job john (alka), and great high score!. So much for that hole "scores are getting lower" thread. One of my few favorites that did well. Seven 1's is just wrong. Great job man, I am seriously jealous, or is it envious? Envious.
07/08/2002 12:21:00 AM
You go boy !!!!! You earned this one !!!!!!!!
07/08/2002 12:19:00 AM
I would like to thank everyone for the great comments on this photo. I’m not going to go into details about it here because I have prepared a “How’d They Do That” for the site. The only brief comments that I wish to make are: 1) I wish I had known about the Popular Photography photo before I did this. I would have used my other idea instead, which is shown in my “How’d They Do That” article. 2) The Popular Photography photo was NOT my inspiration for this shot. The photos that inspired this shot are listed in my article as well. My objective was to produce a BETTER image than the ones I listed. 3) I don’t believe that duplicating ideas that others have already done is wrong in any way. If this was the case, every photographer who photographs the Eiffel Tower or the White House would have to give credit to the first person who did it, right? J

I spend too much time looking at photography online. Because of this, I see quite a few photos that are duplicated ideas. I don’t hold that against the photographer. Cheers to all, and I hope everyone who celebrated Independence Day in the US had a safe and happy weekend J

Yes, we all know you're gonna win -- nicely done, John :) My only complaint is that the lighting seems uneven. That is, the white of the background flag at the bottom left seems darker than that at the top right. Could be my eyes..
07/07/2002 10:38:00 AM
Depth of field works well with this shot. Overall size of water drops provides even distribution of the flag in its multiple versions across the frame. Very colorfull and well done.
07/07/2002 09:14:00 AM
Wooooooow! Wish I'd had THIS idea.
Oh wait, I did! :) (flowerdrops)
This is a spectacular capture! Clear, crisp and just wonderful colors. Can't wait to swap stories about how you did it.
07/06/2002 06:47:00 PM
I love the illusion of depth you get with this technique. I'm not a huge fan of using the flag motif, but it works well here. Isaac just walked by and said "cool, American footballs!"
07/06/2002 03:09:00 PM
I would like to know how this was accomplished. Would it be out of line for the photographer to e-mail me? macaron002@aol.com
07/06/2002 12:01:00 AM
It was such a great idea. Too bad it wasnt yours. July isue of Popular Photography.
07/05/2002 11:57:00 PM
neat photo....looks just like the one i saw in the new popular photography magazine....1
07/05/2002 06:27:00 PM
I love it.
07/05/2002 04:32:00 PM
this looks familiar ;)
07/05/2002 04:21:00 PM
This is a beautiful shot, the drops are cristal sharp. the colors are striking (duh!), and you have a patriotic theme for the 'Transparency' challenge a ten in my book.
07/04/2002 11:46:00 PM
This is easily one of the best images I've ever seen on this site.
07/04/2002 02:32:00 PM
I really love this picture - so patriotic!!
07/04/2002 12:57:00 AM
fantastic interplay going on in this image. The sharp/soft, large/small (and even smaller!), upside/downside, straight/curved... I could go on.
07/03/2002 11:21:00 PM
Excellent still life. Beautiful design and exposure. Knife sharp. Very well set up and executed. Paul.
07/03/2002 11:00:00 PM
Good enough to salute! I would love to learn how this technique is done.
07/03/2002 10:55:00 PM
this is wonderful. 10
07/03/2002 10:18:00 PM
I have seen this idea many times before and it looks good to me all the time! Your execution is very nice and makes this photo one of my 10 best this week..hokie
07/03/2002 06:27:00 PM
Extremely strong graphic. 10
07/03/2002 03:52:00 PM
Beautifully done. I would love to know how you did this.
07/03/2002 03:15:00 PM
What a spectacular photo. I only wish I could do half as well. I'd be willing to bet that this is the challenge winner!
07/03/2002 02:59:00 PM
I rated this one higher just to counter the anti US vote you will get here.
07/03/2002 12:44:00 PM
Awesome shot!!!! I have seen this done before with the flag and its always a pleasing effect.
07/03/2002 10:31:00 AM
This is, without a doubt, the best photo of this week's challenge. It's the only 10 I'm giving because no other photo comes close (and I usually give several 10s). Fabulous job!
07/03/2002 09:07:00 AM
I've seen a few versions of this and even wanted to try it myself for this challenge, but I forgot. Well, I'm glad I forgot because yours turned out totally awesome, you would have kicked my butt!! ;) Nice job! A 10 for the red white and blue! :)
07/03/2002 06:00:00 AM
Woah........ great absolutely great effect
07/03/2002 02:30:00 AM

07/03/2002 01:47:00 AM
semi-transparent 7 distortion 8colors in objects 9 Be creative 6 As a non American I get tired of your flag in every contest but I still gave you a 9
07/02/2002 11:26:00 PM
Insanely cool. This is a spectacular effect! You must be American....
07/02/2002 09:51:00 PM
This is an awesome photo! Bravo!
07/02/2002 08:04:00 PM
OK, I must admit that while simply waving a flag in front of me does little for a vote, this shot is so freakishly well done that I find myself just staring at it. Excellent, excellent photo. Fantastic, awesome, 10!
07/02/2002 08:01:00 PM
You got recognized in the forums. Nice work. I really like how this turned out. No ifs/ands/buts about it. NO patriotic influence. This would have been great with many different subjects. Great color! Photo 9 Transparency 9 total 9 swash
07/02/2002 03:58:00 PM
I have no idea how this was done, but I will assume that it meets the criteria for the rules - I think it is an interesting shot = 6
07/02/2002 03:16:00 PM
creative 10 interesting 10 focus 9 framing 10 = 10 I like the way I can see all the flags in the drops. If you look at it long enough it looks like they are floating. I love it.
07/02/2002 02:55:00 PM
I forgoy my comment when I rated this....This is very cool love how the droplets pick up the flag
07/02/2002 02:01:00 PM

07/02/2002 12:37:00 PM
What an awesome photograph!!
07/02/2002 09:55:00 AM
They look like little blimps. I happen to know whose this is, and you always have the best water drops, and I'm wondering how you do it, cause mine never come out that way :-) I wonder what it would have looked like with the flag in the plane of focus, so it would almost look like the water drops were on the flag itself...I don't know if that would really work in reality though. Nice job, as usual! - Kimberly
07/02/2002 09:43:00 AM
great shot...love to see a how you did it.
07/02/2002 08:41:00 AM
Interested in seeing your discription on this process. Excellent shot.
07/02/2002 08:22:00 AM
This picture turned out great. One of my favorites this week - 10 chuck
07/02/2002 12:27:00 AM
This one will either do well or do really bad, as the patriotic theme gets hammerred = ) With me, ya done good! Great images in the water droplets - 10
07/01/2002 11:48:00 PM
Awesome! Well done and great idea!
07/01/2002 11:03:00 PM
This is a very well done shot. nice color selection- clear- Congrats, My top choice for this challenge - total 10 - good work
semi-transparent 10 - Over-all appeal -10
distortion 10 Artistic - 10
colors in objects 10
Be creative 9
One minor tid bit...In many countries it could be disrespectful to display an inverted flag.... How much effect is lost if the photo is turned 90 degrees??
07/01/2002 10:11:00 PM
Excellent! Not at all obvious how this was achieved......very very nice. 10
07/01/2002 09:26:00 PM
Awesome .... This is georgous photography.... rls
07/01/2002 08:42:00 PM
very nice, and perfect week for the submission.
07/01/2002 07:50:00 PM
This is absolutly superb. This is what they were looking for without a doubt.
07/01/2002 06:40:00 PM
Awesome image!
07/01/2002 06:33:00 PM
Excellent play of colours using water droplets! Surely one of the best photos for this week's contest.
07/01/2002 06:28:00 PM
Very nice shot, well-well-well done. Good job. Kee
07/01/2002 06:27:00 PM
A clisjae, but extremely well executed.
07/01/2002 06:23:00 PM
Perfect for the 4th of July. Very patriotic. Anxious to hear how you accomplished it. Good luck.
07/01/2002 05:41:00 PM
I've been trying to do something like this for weeks. Love it - excellent picture! The diagonal works well, great focus on the water drops. A 10 + some envy.
07/01/2002 05:29:00 PM
wow, amazing.
07/01/2002 05:28:00 PM
Technically excellent - a really nice image. Did you try it the other way up? (so the lensed images are the right way round)
07/01/2002 05:16:00 PM
This is awesome! A winner! (10)
07/01/2002 05:12:00 PM
I love this, but I think the whites have too much of a blue/cyan tint to them -- as if this was taken on an overcast day. There's an easy way to tweak this (legally, I think) in PS -- but I don't know if you have that program. If you're not sure what I mean, let me know and I can tweak a copy for you for comparison.
07/01/2002 04:28:00 PM
I love this! Great idea...awesome focus/clarity. I might try this for my son's room. Top 3 for sure! 10
07/01/2002 03:56:00 PM
john, i knew you had a winner here as soon as i saw this on deviantart (before the challenge). awesome shot. i'm usually a little wary of flags (being german and all that), but this one is really well done (you can see what it is, but at the same time it appears very abstract). i like the vertical angle for the flag, and how the little water droplets make it look as if they are far away, this shot has a lot of perspective to it. how far away was the flag from the glass? you are definitely in my top 3 this week. -- gr8photos (10)
07/01/2002 03:34:00 PM
I love this shot. I wanted to do something similar, but you have far surpassed anything I was looking at. Excellent job. Great depth. At he end of the week, I am still looking at it and loving it. Way to go! karmat
07/01/2002 03:23:00 PM
Umm this looks like a photo I saw in a magazine recently.
07/01/2002 03:09:00 PM
On the thumbnail I like it this way, but on the big image I think I'd like the flag to be right side up in the drops. Whatever, I'm nitpicking, it's awesome!
07/01/2002 01:47:00 PM
Really great work. I like all of it - dof, contrast, composition/layout. Only one thing though, could the white have been better? I've had this problem in the past - white coming out more grey. If this was intentional, then my apologies - personally would've liked it just a little brighter. I'm new at this, and don't want to be out of line - I've found that the white balance changed my photos . But I really like this, creative, artistic - just a really great picture.
Ruthann
07/01/2002 01:38:00 PM
Love this one.
07/01/2002 01:25:00 PM
this was recently shown in "Popular Photography" I seem to recall it was part of a series by either the same photographer or a set by assorted artist.
07/01/2002 12:56:00 PM
Great Fourth of July tie in!!!!!
07/01/2002 12:42:00 PM
I'm glad to see that someone thought of the 4th of July as well. :-) Great pic!
07/01/2002 12:19:00 PM
nice... : )
07/01/2002 10:41:00 AM
Great effect, nice composition of patriotic droplets!!
07/01/2002 10:11:00 AM
Very good! It has strong 'movement' I can feel the drops falling from top-right to bottom-left. :)
07/01/2002 10:05:00 AM
Very nice use of relection, especially for voting this week.
07/01/2002 10:00:00 AM
Absolutely beautiful! No suggestions to make as this is a perf shot... would love to see this in the "How'd They Do It?" section!
07/01/2002 08:33:00 AM
Definitely seen the idea before, but you've done it very well. The detail in the drops is very crisp, and the angle is a nice touch.
07/01/2002 08:10:00 AM
What a wonderful shot. Clever and well done. I'd love to learn how in the forums afterward!
07/01/2002 07:27:00 AM
I'm afraid I have to give a flag picture a ten
07/01/2002 06:14:00 AM
This is awsome! Fitting for the week as well. Number one for me this week.
07/01/2002 03:54:00 AM
The water drops are amazing. The perfect subject for this week challenge and the 4th of July. = 10
07/01/2002 02:48:00 AM
Love it!! Not sure how you shot it, but would love to find out!! 10
07/01/2002 02:12:00 AM
LOVE this shot. It's on my favorites over at dA.com! It has my vote!
07/01/2002 01:45:00 AM
Very cool, why does it remind me of Pepsi? ;) 8
07/01/2002 12:58:00 AM
AWSOME!!!!!!! That needs to be sent to the white house. Just one question how did you do it? :) COOL!!! I totally believe this deserves a 10 if i could i'd give more this picture really shows transparent and a proud american. GREAT JOB!!!
-sweetk1685
07/01/2002 12:19:00 AM
