"PEACOCK" does meet the Duotone challenge, because it is black and white.

The image is very unusual, the subject is pretty hard to focus on. The shadows are very strong and overpower the piece for me. Peacocks can defiantly be hard creatures to capture a shot of, especially with the background you want for your image. I like that you did not place the peacock in the center, I think it is always hard to use the right hand side for the subject when the subject is staring off to the side, unless it is a very abstract piece.

This was defiantly a tough challenge, especially with 610 entries. I think maybe if the peacock had more light so that we could see him better as well as maybe if he was looking towards the center it would have scored better. Also the background is somewhat distracting with the all the different lines and textures. Unfortunately the piece does not work for me, but hey everyone had very different ideas and in the end all that really matters is if you like your piece.

The bird is lost in the shadow

this is a very interesting scene - i sure wish the bird stood out more against the background though....

Peacock is a little obscured by the shadows.

The subject of this photo, the peacock , is barely distinguishable from the rest of the dark shadows.

the main subject is a little dark but a very nice shot

Tough to make out the peacock in this. Maybe use a flash? or wait until he moved more into the light? In addition to the lighting, the background is also a problem (too distracting). If possible I'd suggest at least going with a shallow DOF to blur as much of that out as you can or just wait for the peacock to move somewhere else with a less distracting background.

Composition-wise, you did get the peacock off center which is good. He is looking to the right so maybe it would have been better to off-center him on the left and have negative space in the direction he is looking.

This would be much better if you had caught the peacock in the sun. It gets lost in the shade of the tree.

the lighting and the composition are terrible! just because you found a peacock and managed to get something of it into the shot before he run away does not make it a contest entry!! neither getting it bw; after trying to vote for more than 100 photos it starts to bug me people enter such unprofessional images and clutter the challenge... also the fact that I should leave a comment for giving a photo a 1 when the reason is obvious; ok.. calmer.. the subject (peacock) is in shadow and you can hardly see it and it's a she peacock without the nice tail; there is no reason why we should be looking at those benches; there is no composition, no appearence of atempt to make an interesting photo; sorry...

The bird gets lost in the shadows and the busy background.

To be honest, the peacock is hard to see, the eye is very much drawn to the left, bright side of the image. One of the few drawbacks of sunny days I guess, the high contrast light.

peacock could be a little more centered and exposed
02/23/2006 08:21:58 PM
i would have wished to see more detail on the peacock, especially since it's the main subject of the shot. perhaps if it was shot in more direct sunlight instead of in the shadows...

i am unsure what the subject is. the peacock gets lost into the shadows.

background is too buys
02/22/2006 02:14:20 PM
For me, the background is too busy and the peacock blends in too much with the shadows.

If it wasn̢۪t the title, I would probably miss it. I don̢۪t think B&W works best for this picture, IMO.

Can barely see the head of the subject, it blends into the background a little too much.
02/22/2006 09:56:19 AM
Shadows are so bad you can barely see the bird. Fill flash would have helped here.

Too dark - can't see the peacock
