Thanks for all the great comments! This python is my pet and only about 3.5 feet long and will not bite - I was safe the entire time! Personally I like my reflection in his eye...I had to crop it so tight because his tail is looped around him near his head and it looked horrible until I cropped it out...

very nice shot of reptilian stoicism (new title?) and is'nt that your reflection in his eye? neat.
07/21/2002 11:02:00 PM
Nicely done. Personally, I wish the reflection of the person wasn't in the eye -- but I'm sure you have otehr people telling you they like it -- so what do I know. I hate snakes -- but I have this morbid curiosity to capture them on film. During a recent trip to the zoo, I managed to capture a rattlesnake yawning -- the pictures weren't very good cauz I was kinda freaking out. Anyway -- good lighting, nice back and foregrounds. good composition with the snake. If the tongue had been out, now that would have added the icing to the cake. :-)

with a different crop, it would have been excellent for the texture challenge.

Nice macro but perhaps a little too tight for my taste. Still a good shot though. 7-ClubJuggle
07/20/2002 10:24:00 PM
great shot and composition
07/20/2002 10:14:00 PM
To be honest -- voting on thumbnail. hate snakes. don't want to see full-size. two extra points just 'cause I won't look at it. (would've gotten a 10 from me in the fear challenge.) I think I'm going to pass out now, it downloaded before i could finish commenting. *shudder* karmat

Good angle to get an unusual "pose." Nice reflection too -- check out The Mirror Project if you haven't already...

Awesome photo, This is one of my favorites for this challenge. Great color, excellent angle, it clearly shows it̢۪s enormous size. Nice clear focus, I can actually see you in the snake̢۪s eye. The green in the background and the brown on the ground give the feeling of a natural habitat. (I like it). 9

Great focus but I'm, personaly, not a fan of the way it is cropped. I would like to see a bit more of the head.
07/20/2002 04:13:00 PM
Scary
07/20/2002 09:05:00 AM
too close for me! Interesting pict.
07/20/2002 02:07:00 AM
I'd be willing to bet money this one wins. Getting this close to a deadly snake (I'm assuming its deadly) and getting the colors just right, It deserves a:

07/19/2002 12:28:00 AM
I love all animals so this is appealing. I just can't help wondering if this was in captivity? Well executed.
07/18/2002 03:42:00 PM
Very nice composition. Like the way you cropped this image; makes it very interesting.
07/18/2002 02:22:00 PM
Really nice face shot. Needs more depth of field for this close. I like how you appear in the snake's eye. Great color! 8 Swash
07/18/2002 12:30:00 PM
Eeww. I don't like snakes too much, but this is an excellent composition with lovely depth of field and colors. I'm so sad you're in the photograph as a reflection in his eye :) The good news is that you could probably clone it out (afterwards) without too much trouble, and probably most people wont notice...
07/18/2002 08:25:00 AM
what can i say? this is an excellent image... great composition and subject material... I even *like* the reflection of the photographer in the snake's eye :) good shot! = 9 - jmsetzler

07/17/2002 04:21:00 PM
Interesting perspective. I like the crop on the shot, although it would be nice to see a bit more of his head. I know it's hard sometimes though with the shots needing to be a specific dimesion for entry.

07/15/2002 03:57:00 PM
Great portrait. The only thing I might comment on is that you're reflected in the snake's eye.
07/15/2002 02:52:00 PM
Great shot.
07/15/2002 02:45:00 PM
The detail of this is great and creates a photo that gathers a response from me (I'm afraid!). Would have worked well for the fear challenge, I bet. Is that your reflection in the eyes? You're braver than I am!
07/15/2002 01:46:00 PM
You've really pushed your limits on this one. The clarity, DOF, color and crop are all perfect. I like being able to see you in it's eye. It just adds to the whole picture:) = 10 Shiiizzzam
07/15/2002 01:25:00 PM

07/15/2002 12:57:00 PM
Fits the _texture_ and _fear_ challenge too. Nice shot and good color. Would of like to see the bottom cropped more but nice shot. Kee

07/15/2002 03:26:00 AM
nice composition. great shot.
07/15/2002 02:04:00 AM
Nice closeup of a snake. I might have tried a more extreme angle on the face though, not as much from the side.
