Good depth, and the short DOF works well. 7 nards656

Good composition, good example of texture, but the focus and apparent adjustments [or lack of], especially on the right side don't work well. In fact it's too distracting and makes me want to move on. A good photo will capture my interest and will have "sticking" or "gazing" power.

This seems more of a study in "contrast" rather than "texture."

I like the contrasting textures, but the graininess really doesn't work for me -- it looks over pixelated on the right. karmat

Total Score7

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

is this a close-up of a seashell? i think it must be. i like the idea of the rough outside and the smooth inside all in one photo. it looks like you have way oversharpened or post-processed this (deliberately, i'm sure) to give it a more abstract feel. unfortunately, for me, that doesn't work, think i would've preferred just the sharpened image (difficult to say of course w/out seeing that). -- gr8photos (3)

It's a little fuzzy on the left side, but I love how you used more than one texture. Did I mention how cool the silver part looks?

This picture seems noisy, as if it was shot with a high ISO, or enlarged too much. If it wasnt for that, this picture might be more visually interesting to me.

a bit blurry, harsh contrasts, causes too much distraction
