Thanks, Ursula and Neil! And thank for all the great comments during the challenge!
Neil: I opened a blank file in PSElements 3.0. I put up a quater inch grid to use as a template. I clicked on the backgrond color icon and brought up the Color Picker and chose several different hues of green. I selected one 1/4" vertical space of the grid with the Rectangular Marquee tool and then filled the selected area with Paint Bucket tool. Repeated for about a dozen different colors. Then I copy and pasted the inital set across the background and, when completed, merged down each set. The I sharpened it a bit to give a better definition between the colors. The curves were made with the Shear filter. Here is a downsized version of the background:

Great shot. This is one of my personal favourites from this contest. Really well done. You've taken an otherwise dull subject and turned it into something interesting to look at. |

This is great. The choice of background pattern really brings out the refractive nature of the glass. The splaying of the rods from being tightly bunched in the corner to spreading across the upper right side of the frame is very well thought out. And having one rod crossing another, so we see a hint of refractions of refractions, is inspired. |

Robert? Love this image, great colours. I'm thinking you might have too many swizzle sticks in there, one or two might have a bigger imapct, now it's sort of busy. Still a great photo though. |

Everyone has the right to do an image like this at least once to prove themselves. But repeat offenders should perhaps move on ;-) Not that you are, surely? Nice colours. 7. |

I like the effect of the swizzle sticks.....The background seems a little to busy, and distracts from the mirror reflection of the glass sticks..... |
