Not crisply focused and could use better lighting. I still like it though, being a tree-hugger type...<grin> But it needs a focal point.

This is a nice snapshot, but it doesn't speak to me artistically. *4* -balynch

great wood texture. i took a couple of shots of wood but they didn't come out as well. i think it's a shame your DOF wasn't deeper, the foreground in the bottom of the photo seems blurry. all focus would've been nicer in my opinion. -- gr8photos (5)

Pretty good choice of texture. However, the image doesn't seem in focus - perhaps camera shake. Maybe use a tripod. Also, the lighting is off. Using flash is ok, but make sure that you have enough fill light for the whole image or that you aren't too close to your subject.

Total Score7

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

I like this...I wish it were a little sharper but since I don't know what type of camera you're using, I can't count off for that. I like the texture in this and the leaves at the upper right. 7

good texture but the overall image lacks good visual impact. I believe the focus is a little soft in the bottom portion of the image... = 5 - jmsetzler

Need focusing

looks to me like the focus is a bit soft or jpeg has ruined the details of your shot - too bad when it's about texture. the subject still looks great though. 4 beegee

I like the subject of your picture, but it would have been nice if the foreground had been sharper. My eye is a little disturbed by the leaves in the background also.

lovely tree a bit out of focus at the bottom
07/22/2002 05:22:00 PM
good composition and textures

poor lighting...

Quite a bit of the photo is out of focus.
07/22/2002 08:42:00 AM
Doesn't quite make it maybe a bit sharper focus and cropping out the distraction of the leaves and sky

interesting... but a bit too 'flat'
