One of my faves from one of my first real model shoots. Of course I hope it does well, but for me this is truly a free study and one in which I hope I get a ton of comments so I can improve.

Here is another from my time on this shoot.

brilliant. i spend 3 minutes trying to figure out what the blotch on her forehead was, and then it all became clear (literally) once i gave my monitor a vigorous wipe. stupid dust on the screen.

I never would have guessed that this was yours...although I probably should have when you said that you had done something different.

At any rate, congrats on the very well deserved top-10 finish. If this is the type of portrait work you're capable of, I'm very much looking forward to seeing more.

Perfect balance of soft and sharp. I'm curious how that is achieved. Is it DOF, or lens, both or what?

My favorite portrait in this challenge. Very natural. Like the soft focus around the edges. Lighting looks great. Bumping up.

Great work. Nice DOF. Gorgeous eyes. The negative space on the left actually enhances the photo. Great color.

Masterfully lit. nice detail retained in the face and hair, the neck and chest seem almost too smoothed, but what do I know.

I'm not in love with the title, but I am with this shot. Soft light indeed, everything about this shot is soft and inviting, the exposure on the hair and face is spot on. Beautiful model too, of course.

Everything here works well.
An attractive young lady, pretty eyes, nice tonal range and just enough of a smile in progress to add a nice feeling overall.
For what it's worth, she is one of the more beautiful & photogenic naturals I have seen on DPC.
Very well done!

The muted pastel colours, the gradient diffusion, the appropriate amount of neat image, all make this a great photo. One teeny nitpick, is that the asymmetry of the catchlights in her eyes draws my attention. Was the left eye's catchlight postprocessed, or natural? It's a very minor detail, but her eyes are such an integral part of the visual and subjective appeal, that that occurs to me. But a superb photo, the like of which I wish I could take. 9.

Wow, Lighting and DOF spot on. Very nice!

Composition: 10 - Spot on :)
Technical: 9 - Wonderful soft lighting, matched well with a great shallow DoF and soft processing technique. The only thing that bothers me a little is the white dot in the right pupil. Catchlights are good but in this case it makes her eye just look a bit strange.
Creativity: 5 - The location and the pose aren't that creative here but I won't rate that too strongly in the overall average since the photo is a whole is so good.
Appeal: 9 - Beautiful model and beautiful photography.

Overall Calculated Average Score: 9

A fine model and a fine portrait. The soft blurring isn't coming over so well though. The uneveness and irregularities around the shirt straps and in the hair reveal this.
