Love this shot for it's excellent focus and excellent DOF! It ain't easy photographing a chain! Also love the colors. This definitely meets the challenge criteria and should get brownies points for being a little different. Great shot.

Something old. Use your photographic technique to emphasize the age of your subject.
Composition - quite good, "string" bothers me
Technical Aspects - quite good
Meets Challenge - yes
Visual Impact / Originality - high

I do really like this, and have therefore marked it high. But the overall tone is a little too dark for me. If you look at the image at a smaller size, all you can see is a brown smear. Whilst the challenge doesn't suggest that the photo works at a smaller size too, it's something I couldn't help but notice. I know this sounds foolish but the texture of the chain reminds me of jerk dried salami type stuff. :)

Just a shade dark. Otherwise excellent.

I would like to see the chain angled a bit more. The colors seem dithered/over compensated with levels/brightness? Definately something old....

Nice macro.

I love this, I wouldn't change it at all

This is a great photo. I love the detail shown...so simple yet so intricate. It's at the top of my list this week.

Excellent subject choice. Cropping to center the chains might help. Perhaps this photo was sharper before JPG reduction?

excellent shot... perfect depth of field... my only critiqe on this one is to either try to get closer or use a tighter crop... possibly a diagonal orientation of the chain in the frame would be nice too... good work :) - jmsetzler

great shot...like all that rust and it still gives me the feeling of strength.

Nice-- these chains look very old! Good way to use DOF to forece the focus on the chains. My only complaints are that white wisp of string, and I would like to this sharpened just a tad. --8-- sohr

I'm quite curious as to what's in the background. I think this image could be a little brighter...it seems a little dark and flat on this monitor. But I really really like those rusty links :-)
08/07/2002 02:32:00 AM
A little bit more contrast would have been a great help! I like the contrasting forms in orientation, sharp and blurred.

i like these colors!

Nice picture. Good lighting and clarity.

One of few images that caught my eye. Good one!

Nice, I dont think I would of left the twine in it though.
08/05/2002 09:14:00 PM
It looks like I could reach right out and touch it. If I could, I would have removed the root or whatever is intertwined in the one chain. Your picture does not need it. Nice blurring of the background. In my opinion any way. Autool

Now that's an old chain:) A little more focus would have helped. The string also is a bit distracting. Nice idea though. (5)

Excellent. I like the DOF in this. Great texture (although 2 challenges ago). The coloring/lighting is also very effective - as well as the composition. 9

a little on the dark side...but I can feel the ocean dampness in the air!
08/05/2002 04:04:00 PM
I like this photo, but on my monitor, it is somewhat dark, and doesn't have enough contrast for my taste. The chain almost blends into the background. lhall

very striking image

what if the chain ran diagonally? Would the picture have more impact then? (I've been reading again, so now I'm confused by what the "authorities" say.0

That chain looks hella old
08/05/2002 09:27:00 AM
this is a great shot..only thing I'd change about it would be to have the background a bit lighter....it would make the links stand out more. I know sometimes you can't pick your background though...:)
