Greetings from the Critique Club

This is a very nice pet portrait - one I'm sure your sister would love to have printed and framed. Nice job with the new camera - very good focus which can be hard with animal hair. Post processing is such that it doesn't look "processed" which to me is good for shots like this. What I like best of all about it is the crop - some may think it's too tight, but I think good close crops of animals show a bit more of their personality.

What could make it better? Maybe a bit more light in the eye, perhaps. I don't know that an animal portrait with no action or real "story" will score really high in a Free Study - too much for voters to choose from and some things just get overlooked. It did obvsiously strike a chord with your commenters, though, who seemed to like it quite a bit!

The shot that currently is your highest scoring, for example, has a "story" and a feel to it that voters will respond to more often. That doesn't mean that very good shots of animals, like this one, aren't "good" - just that they may not score as high in a Free Study.

Hope that makes sense! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I think I would like this better if this was more of a frontal view to show the pretty eyes more.

very nice detail here, although it's not a terribly compelling shot

Good lighting on the dog. I think the green should be toned down a little.

Great doggy close up. Nice detailing. I fear it will get lost in sunsets and landscapes, but it is good.
