Challenge: Free Study XIV (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S602Z
Location: Yellowstone National Park, US
Date: Oct 8, 2006
Aperture: f/9
ISO: 160
Shutter: 1/270
Galleries: Landscape, Travel
Date Uploaded: Oct 24, 2006

This was taken in Yellowstone National Park. The sky was very cloudy, and very tricky to play with. This shot came from the under-exposure of a bracketed exposure. The Normal one was OK, but I found this one very appealing. The ground was illuminated by patches of sun light breaking through the clouds behind me. I hope this does well. It is by far more processed than I normally go with.

Post Processing:
1) Tweak the Curves, just a bit.
2) Dodging to bring up some of the bright areas of the photo.
3) Some more dodging in the sky.
4) boost the saturation to almost 25% (maybe a bit less than that).
5) Slight USM.
6) Save for Web.

Sure looks exactly like the title says. The scene that is, not your photograph, lol. The branch coming in from the side doesn't work at all. A lower perspective where you could get those silhouetted, leafless trees more in front of that gloomy sky might also of been interesting.

A good title and the location has that sort of aspect. 8.

I like the mood of this shot. However, the intruding branch on the left is very distracting.

Wowsers...what a shot!!! Love the tufts of smoke; the darkness, the gloomy sky. Timing was just right for this one. Good luck in the challenge! :)

a really nice shot but IMHO I would have cropped the top third of the sky and a bit of the foreground. I feel that the letter box format would have really balanced the image well. 8*

What a lovely mood setter with that almost eerie look.

Wow. very desolate and dramatic looking. Way to "capture" an emotion in a landscape.

Very beautiful. Really amazing light, haunting landscape. I love the little line making up a light break in the clouds that points to the light on the ground. 10
