I have been enjoying doing the "Macros" re the "30 Day Project", so when the "Bokeh" challenge came up, I decided I try to do a macro for this one.
By accident, when my husband picked two magnolios flowers for me to photograph, he came accross this magnificant beetle.
It is an "Elephant Beetle" and I was just rapped.
I spent two next hours taking photos of him, and this is one of the results.
I then released him back into my garden, where we found him, safe and sound.

Congratulations on a top 40 image...this is a great shot...you even captured some water droplets on the beatle's carapace...the title is excellent too, as is the composition.

Back to comment - Cool image. Nice sharp focus on the beetle and he offers a great contrast to the rest of the image. The blurred background offers a nice compliment both in colors and patterns. I like bugs so I find this shot to be pleasing with him as the main subject. The frame may be a bit of overkill but I wont let that affect my vote. Bumping up 1.

Now that's a big bug! And it looks ready to eat the beautiful flower - you got a problem I think :) (if that's your garden, maybe it's someone else's problem). The bokeh is excellent, as is the clarity/focus on the subject. The border looks a bit heavy to my eyes. ~8

Excellent focus on the beetle. I really like the placement in the shot and how he's slightly off kilter on the blossom. I think this suits the challenge very well. Nice lighting and the busy bokeh in the background does add to the shot, to my way of thinking. Good luck. This is sooo superior to most!! 8

Eeeeeee. I don't normally like bugs, but I have to admit. This onen is photographed to perfection. And the bokeh background is beautiful! Great job -- even from a bug hater :)

You even included the obligatory water drops on the beetle's back :-) Great photo, a 10.

too many borders, picture has a blue cast

The framing is too heavy: I would have preferred this without: the blackness of the beetle is strong, but it is pulling towards the frame and so the general background gets lost in the battle between darknesses...

Beautiful technical imagery. Superb sharpness. Great colors and your pleasing bokeh strongly supports your main subject. The border is a bit ostentatious but the photography is nicely done.
