Very windy day on Coney Island!

Post Challenge: I love Coney Island in the "off Season" and had seen the effects of the wind on the sand before so when I heard there would be wind gusts up to 45 mph I had to give it a try! Took alot of shots I liked but when my husband John saw this one he said if the sand was real enter it! It was so I did. I didn't dodge anything, but used contrast.
Alot of ribbon worthy shots in this challenge so I am honored to have placed and thankful that it was a windy weekend!

Return for comment. Great scene and great long exposure to show wind. To me, the sand is the highlight, and the strong contrast of the clouds weakens that a bit. In fact, the sky/clouds is so contrasty, it looks a bit unnatural. Had you burned it it more, darker blue, it would have competed less with the sand. Constructive criticism aside, it's a strong photo, worthy of an 8.

This really shows the wind and meets the challenge very well. That sand blowing around must have been hard on you and your equipment!!

The sky seems a bit on green side, but I like the photo a lot because of all the puffy white clouds in the sky. The buildings add interest as does the bridge in the distance. Good work!

This has HDR written all over it. The clouds look 3D and overexposed in a few spots. Cool capturing the blowing sand and whitecap waves. The sand is the coolest part of this photo for me. Good luck in the challenge.

Great job capturing the sand in motion. Looks like the winds where around ~25-30mph. Only nitpick is the editing, the unevening burning of the clouds kind of spoils the shot. I do like the rest of the tone of the image.

I think this is a very strong image and the blowing sand is reminiscent of drifting snow. My only grief is the harsh burning within the clouds as it seems too bright to cast such harsh shadows. Had that been a bit more subtle, I would have surely expected to see this in the top ten. Good luck!

omg! my jaw just dropped, this is fantastic! The contrast and tones and everything is just amazing! It does seem slightly odd to me that those are nimbus clouds when they are usually sirus (wispy) on windy day. wow...just wow. 10+fav
