Ahhh...Isn't this for this week's challenge? hehe...Kicking yourself now aren't we? Well executed though...new pencils for a new challenge ;)

Strong saturated colors and excellent composition.

All-around great shot here.

This is the Third shot I have seen of A bunch of pencils, I'll bet you are just kicking yourself. This would have been a great photo for this weeks challenge
08/16/2002 04:32:00 AM
nice and simple. The concept is sound.
08/16/2002 03:30:00 AM
Are you a challenge ahead?
08/15/2002 05:47:00 PM
I thought of this one first when I saw the new assignment. Great concept however.
08/15/2002 05:23:00 PM
Good composition. more lighting from behind the camera to eliminate the dark area in front of the pencil stacks.

So you're the other person with the pencil shot ... I've been getting so many "I bet you wish you would've waited a week" comments ... grrrr .... I'm sure you have no idea what I'm talking about, right? ... lol ...
Great focus and composition btw!

good idea for the challenge.

At first, I looked at this and I was like...woohoo, a pile of new pencils. And then I noticed the blank lined paper there at the bottom and that made all the difference to me. Not sure why, cause usually I associate paper with a sharpened pencil, ready to write with. Maybe you could have tried to stagger them so you threw in some of the erasser ends too, but not sure how that would look in the way of appealing either. When the new challenge was announced that we were supposed to take pictures of pencils this week...the comments made were that it would be very boring, and visually uninteresting. This isn't the case with your photo. JUST a pile of pencils might have been pretty lame, but like I said, the paper makes all the difference. Great job on making something generally uninteresting look interesting. Good luck with the challenge.

Wow, bet you feel either silly or way ahead of your time, considering next week's challenge subject. That said, VERY nice shot, if a bit on the plain side, sorry, just my opinion.... I find it interesting that some pencils look like they were two pieces of wood jammed together, while others look more "solid". I also notice that the stacking isn't wholly orderly, I like that, nice. The only thing that I think is on the low side is interest, that devil! Tweek that factor and submit this week for a slightly better score (a bit of a joke?) Try getting an ant to hold up one pencil....

Another one of the few pencil submissions for this week. Hope you still have something up your sleeve for next week. I like this one because of the lines on the right and the repeated patterns of the unsharpened pencils which occupy most of the frame. The pencils might be a little too saturated to the point of looking orange. It's pretty good.
