I was fortunate to be able to go out to a poultry breeder, who had baby chickens, gooselings, and ducklings from one day old. My choice to use for this photo, just had to be this little two day old duckling. It was love at first site. If they stayed like this, and never grew up, I would have taken him home with me.

He just sat so perfectly in the palm of the hands of the breeder. His life was just starting, at two days of age, so cute and so precious.

The breeder who produced this young duckling, is quite renowned for her baby ducklings, and have appeared in many national commercials, and also movies here in Australia.

Really nice! I hope you ribbon. Unlike some other pics of animals that were also technically superb, this one distinguishes itself by meeting the "celebratory" requirement of the challenge through, in this case, the image of the older human hands cradling the new life in a protective way. For me, the gentle protection equates to value which implies celebration. Very nice. One of very few 10s I'm giving this time.

Nice picture. I know it is basic editing and you couldn't have done this, but selective sharpening would really be neat I think. Keep the feathers soft and the eye/bill sharper? Anyway I'm obviously not lowering the score because of that, just a thought.

I like the contrast of 'older' hands with the new life. Beautiful!

In my opinion this could win a ribbon. Good luck. Good compisition and photo. Background colour is complementary to the darker patches on the duckling.

Nice contrast of new and "older". Great color saturation on the duckling

This indeed a lovely capture. A slight desaturation of the red would have given this image even more strength. 7

Ok. . now that my heart has turned to mush, how am I supposed to get anything done! This is so CUTE! That little fellow looks so content and safe in those rough, protective hands. What an emotive shot! 10

The delicate nature of the hands holding the chick take this to a level beyond just being another cute photo of a baby something or another. Don't know if it's just me or not, but the red in the hands seems to be overly saturated to the point of distracting from the chick.

This is a beautiful juxtaposition between old and new. The colors are very sharp and focus crisp. 9.

I like the idea that the hands belong to an elderly person. To me it says "The old and the new". 7

Oh God, that is SOOO cute! But I shall put my delight in the subject to one side to rate the photo: excelent depth of field, with all the duckling and most of the hands in focus, with the background thrown completely out; good sharp focus on the eye; pleasing composition. And it is cute...

hands are to red... distract the main point of the baby duck....
