Excellent idea. Spider webs are VERY hard to photograph, unless you are using total manual control: focus, aperture, speed, and EV. I have the impression your web was overdriven due to the camera's AE, which also gives a soft-focus impression. Good effort though. Would love to see your future shots of the same type of subject...

And spider webs pop up just that fast too. Seems like you go to bed and when you wake up, there's webs everywhere. You caught the web nicely and the background is very pleasing with all the different colors. Congrats and good luck with the challenge.

you could have captured it from a different angle... showing the dews more

what a beautiful spider's web, and well positioned. i think you could have highlighted that some more by maybe taking this picture early in the morning or late in the afternoon when there's not such a contrast between light and shade in the background or even just holding a piece of black cardboard behind the spider's web. as it stands, the highlights from the sunshine on the foilage in the background are distracting to me. -- gr8photos (5)

Nice...

Spider webs are a nice subject but a couple of problems I have with this image are: (1) The background is too busy. Basically there are too many colors and too much variance between brightly lit and shadowed areas. Maybe shooting from a different angle and getting closer could have corrected this. Another thing (2) is the web itself. It seems that you are again too far away to effectively capture the detail that a macro shot could have provided and also the harsh light reflecting off of the spider and the web at this distance drown out any color and detail that could have been captured on the spider.
Next time try to shoot closer for more detail and not worry about capturing the entire web in the frame, this can also help with the background problem by decreasing the focal plane and further throwing it out of focus.
Score: 4 (room for improvement though)

I like this a lot. You used DOF and lighting very well to distinguish the web from its background.

I have taken and seen many pictures of new spider webs. What caught my eye on this picture was the beautiful diversity of background colors. Very nice.

I tried doing this too but I couldn't get the spider in focus so I didn't submit it, your spider isn't in focus either but I'm givien enough information for this to be a striking composition.

The spider looks a little overexposed.

Oh, I love the colors in this shot. That web is definitely new! Good work, and NOT a photo of a baby, flower bud, puppy or sunset. Phew!

I really like the variation of colour in the background, nice photo. I would have preferred a fly trapped on the web, but that's just because I hate the damn things!
