Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Sticky (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD IF for Canon
Location: home
Date: Dec 17, 2006
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/15
Galleries: Studio, Food and Drink
Date Uploaded: Dec 17, 2006

Setup:

Pretty straight forward shot. The spoon was attached to a small lightbox on the left and I used my free hand to dripped some honey on the spoon and yes that's honey coming from the topr. The shutter speed I used created that motion blur. While I thought it looked interesting the way it came out I figured I threw away some points as these types of shots typically demand perfection to do well.

Editing steps:

- Neatimage
- Cloned out dust, specks and some minor hotspots.
- Tone mapping applied just to the honey areas
- Color Replacement Tool used to make honey color consistent.
- Blur tool used on the spoon.
- Noise Reduction Filter applied to whole image.
- Dodged/Burned in some spots mainly the honey and frame edges.
- Tone mapping applied again just on the honey areas.
- Selective Color to lighten the blacks.
- Channel Mixer to desaturate spoon.
- S-Curves applied to provide some contrast.
- Resized for the web
- USM used to provide local contrast enhancement.
- Smart Sharpen

Wow. I didn't expect this. I thought for sure aimeethetoo's and muur88's entries would have finished ahead of mine. All I can say is thank you.

Many congratulations! I love this, it is so clear, and the slight angle give it movement.

What makes this shot for me is the smooth, warmth of the brown background and lighting with the color of the honey...superb! You did what I could only attempt. Congrats!

Beautiful composition and lighting. Nice detail. A bit too much brightness on the intersection above the spoon, but overall you did a great job.

Nice bg color & tone | Excellent golden tone to the honey | Focus is very good but not great | Wish the shutter speed had been higher (the motion blur seems out of place with the rest of the image)

Overall a very nice job on this -- 9 --
