This is GREAT. I love the title, and that could be my husband in your photo. Good job.

this could easily be a best buy ad. great focus and composition, great subject. very well done. if i were to REALLY nitpick, i'd say that something about the cropping bothers me. my eye is being drawn to the mole on his cheek in the lower left corner, so you might want to crop that out, and maybe something pulled back a little bit so as not to be so close to his face might work a little better. but again, this is being really nitpicky. great shot.

I love BB!

Way too far on this one

Very creative!

You have been reading too much Steven King. I see good technical, sharp focus, good exposure and color, but the composition and subject do nithing for me. maybe if he was reflecting a video game screen or something more interesting than a mass merchandizing store's logo.

like the idea, but the execution could have been more subtle. 'Best buy' is very direct and traight to the point. Why not go into the shop and have the boy (?) look at boy things?

I know that temptation! Visits there for me have resulted in new cameras and empty wallets

Cool shot! I love it.. can't say much else.

Creative, good composition and angle, interesting, makes me wonder. Good expression of wanting.

This one touched upon a personal note with me. i absolutely hate best buy. lol. I went in there intending to spend like $2000. and they told me that I couldnt make the purchace, but the gentleman that was with me could make it for me. I am 23 years old. If I were like 10 maybe I would understand. ANYWAY... so I just pictured circuit city in there instead and gave you a high rating!! :) You captured this great and the focus is supurb. Great job and good luck in the challenge.

Nice subtle connection to the challenge...Gotta love those new toys! Good lighting and it certainly fits the theme albeit it's a very subtle connection and people who don't like shopping for new electronics toys probably won't get it.

The photo is pretty good by itself but with the title, the impact of "something new" really hits. I know I have had that feeling many times before at Best Buy. You may have chosen to frame this as you did (not capturing the models entire face) because of possibly losing the detail of the Best Buy sign in the sunglasses and then losing the overall impact but the face being cut off at the lower lip gives the portrait a somewhat awkward look and feel even though my eyes are still drawn to the sunglasses and the BB reflection. Maybe keeping more of the lower face in frame would have helped that. Over all, though, It's a really good job.

Although this is a wonderful shot, with very vibrant colors... I fail to see the "new" part of this photo. New sunglasses? New store? Sorry, 6 for trying!

This is such a clever photo. Cropping and DOF are both perfect. BAMartin

If one were to look only at the thumbnail, the meaning of this would be lost. Once I opened the image though, I didn't have to look too deeply to see what's putting a smile on this kid's face.....NEW STUFF! Kewl! Exposure is excellent, very good crop and I like the upward angle. One other thing is that I haven't seen too many images on here with blue sky. Nice to see. Good job!

For 10 bucks spent...you get a 10. :) I think this is a great idea and well..it's just excellent, what else could anyone say? kdjohnson
08/12/2002 09:40:00 PM
clever. Maybe could have been cropped tighter, to just have the eyes/ hair/ sky ?
08/12/2002 05:08:00 PM
I like this most of all for the originality. It's great to see so much blue at the top, which I might not normally like, but in this case it really makes me think about him making use of his new gear and looking right up to the sun. I like that his mouth is only just in shot.

PS Just noticed the Best Buys reflection in his sunglasses, can't believe I missed that after looking at this photo about 10 times already. That's superb positioning and adds an extra 1.

I like this chot. nice color & contrast, composition is ok. but it doesn't scream 'new' to me. 6 md

Great shot... The "YUB TSEB" is somewhat destracting to me though...
I wonder how it'd look "reversed"...
Granted, it'd be really fake, but i think it might look better. I'm sure you'd get dinged either way though :)
08/12/2002 04:09:00 PM
Great pic! Very original and creative idea and also well shot! I'm sure it was hard to get the angle just right so that the camera wasn't also reflected in the glasses. The sly grin makes the pic!
08/12/2002 02:40:00 PM
Great focus, great colors. Hmmm, best buy. There's something (actually a lot of somethings) in there that I really really want! Great composition! karmat

I can relate to this kid! ha
08/12/2002 11:47:00 AM
great quality. like the composition. not so "new" to me though...
08/12/2002 07:39:00 AM
Fantastic concept and execution! This one gets it all right in my mind. 10.
08/12/2002 01:15:00 AM
Seems he has his eye on something new. The clarity and color are perfect. I like how you thought this out and met the challenge in a unique way = 9
08/12/2002 12:30:00 AM
I guess the consumerism aspect pushes the "new" theme. Not that clear, though.
