Nice....But how do you shoot up with those crumbly things? Could have done it better by using some sort of a little medical container that had liquid or...using pills instead of the syringe |

My favorite photo of the week -- very creative idea! The only thing I can see that MIGHT improve this image -- the all-white flap of the box is rather large and close to the center of the photo. I might like the photo better if this flap were not so central in the image (make it smaller? put more emphasis on the box label somehow?). Great job -- extra points for creativity. 10 LanSnake |

Well I LOVE the creativity in this and think all of us dper's should vote more for it and less on technical merit. Tech merit is also good here, but its the thinking that went into this thats getting a 9 from me. |

I don't like to see the name of the challenge (new) used in the title... too cliche or something. There are lots of other, more creative ways to express it. The syringe gives me a creepy feeling, but I understand it's meaning. I might have cropped more to eliminate more of the dark edges. But a great addiction... dpchallenge. Creative! |

I totally understand the message being portrayed here, but I am not sure I like the presentation of it. The needle seems really harsh and kind of scary. There are other addictions that seem less nasty. I think that comparing a drug addict to any of us DPChallengers is kind of degrading. It's like saying that I used to be a heroine addict, but now I take pictures and post them on this web site. I know that's kind of what you were trying to portray, but I don't think any of us can relate to this particular comparrison. Chocolate, now there is a more realistic transition. I use to be addicted to chocolate, but now it's DPC all the way. I could be misunderstanding this, but I definately think a less harsh addiction would have been more appropriate. Setting that aside, I like how the addictions are lit up and there seems to be nothing else in the world but those addictions. (portrayed by the darkness) Maybe if you set the old addiction in the background a bit, and lighted just the new addiction, it would seem like the old addiction was slipping away into oblivion and the new addiction was completely taking over. Good luck with the challenge. |

This is inventiveâ€Â¦ It's also a great shot. And yes, we can all identify with the message. I think it'd do well even if it was a poor picture - but it isn't. It's sharp, the lighting is superb and it's great use of macro. Composition is fantastic (love the subtlety of the little pile of coloured bits :) You have excelled and I sure this is going to do really well. (10+++) Good luckâ€Â¦ |

This is cooooooooooooooooooool... The first two seconds I just saw the needle and the initial interpretation of a generic drug addiction. In the next two seconds I noticed the syringe box text. A few seconds later I noticed the coloured stuff on the plate - is that to show an addiction to photography because photography is about making things from colours and light? I like the way the pool of light pulls you in and keeps you within the frame. I like the colour of the liquid and the 'stuff'. I am, however, REALLY carefully not looking at the needle as I am a lady who quite literally screeches when needles and syringes pop up unexpectedly on TV. I really ought to stop watching Casualty I guess. 8, kavey |

While not seeming to meet the chalenge at ALL, this, so far, is the most original submission i've seen, and I can't bear to rate it anything lower than a 7.
P.S. Be sure to get rid of that bubble, or you'll have more than an addiction... ;) |

I wanted to let you know that this is an excellent shot. You made your point (no pun intended). I didn't grade this high (5) because I could not separate my gut feelings from my desire to be objective. I've lost some friends to additions and the needles invokes too many bad memories. (Added 8/17: dpchallenge is a good thing. The needle, in my mind, represents bad addictions.) |

|
08/12/2002 03:50:00 PM |
No needles involved! Just broken relationships and empty stomaches, maybe even a little back pain. Hella creative and most likely a winner because you've managed to replicate an image most dpchallengers can relate with |
