Hi everyone I just wanted to say thanks for all of the great comments! This was my first entry to dpchallenge and I am glad that it has been a positive experience. I initially wasn't going to enter the "something new" competition because I couldn't think of any ideas. But last Saturday I was driving around photographing barns and I saw Noah’s Ark, a wildlife reserve and rescue. They had several acres of protected habitat for all types of wildlife including deer. Well of course I had to stop and see what pictures I could get! I spent about 3 or so hours stalking some doe (which luckily weren’t too skittish ) when I saw this little guy. Well I knew right then and there that I had my “something new.” Thanks again!

I envy you of this type of photo opportunity. The fawn is beautiful and your focus, lighting, etc. is right on the money. 10 (shortredneck)

Nice composition and color. Great shot!

I think you are going to take a knocking on this image because of the busy background distracting from the subject. In my opinion you have captured this fawn in its natural setting with good technical skill and composition. One of my top ten picks this week.

Just LOOK at this beautiful little creature. I know how hard it is to get a good CLOSE picture of wild life, especially if you don't have a high power telephoto. I'd like to know how long you waited for this shot!

Another once-in-a-very-long-while photo. Good subject. Because of the tree positioned over the hindquarters, I might be tempted to crop down to the head and shoulders alone, if resolution had permitted.

Wow! Is this real or in a museum? I'm going with "real". Hope you didn't fool me! :0)

nice color and good detail. the branch in the foreground bothers me a bit. i know how hard it is though to catch the right moment when photographing wildlife. nice job.

I know that photographing any kind of wildlife can be very difficult and a lot of times is dependent upon luck. I like this shot but the deer could be a little more in focus, especially its face. Also the background is too busy and the tree in the foreground blocking the left rear leg detracts from the subject a little. Again, I know that you probably couldn't really control these things and that getting the deer that close and still was lucky enough.

This little guy is adorable. The photo was taken very nicely and is of great quality. Can actually almost see the individual hairs on his belly. Portrays "new" very well. Only thing that would have been nice is if the tree wasn't in front of his back leg. Of course, I know how cooperative those baby deer can be, so I wont go so far as to be that picky. You did a wonderful job of getting the deer in the photo to begin with. You're doing 100% times better than me on that one. I can't even get a good photo of a giraffe practically licking me on the nose! I don't think animals like me much, never seem to stand still at all. Great job on the shot, and good luck in the challenge.

Excellent catch! It would have been a 10 if that dang tree in the front didn't cover the rear leg, but that couldn't be helped I'm sure. Congrats on a great shot!

Great shot! Excellent focus, composition. I like the way the tree trunks add a sense of motion to a still shot.

sharp capture, but the tree in the foreground spoils it by hiding the legs.
08/12/2002 07:15:00 PM
lovely doe, too bad the darn tree is cutting her leg off.

Wow, and Wow and more Wow! Very impressive. I like everything about this shot. The fawn almost screams off the page. I love baby deer pics, but this is maybe the best I have ever seen. Well deserved 10, if I could go higher, I would! Swash

Wow, the fawn really stands out. I wish the tree wasn't on the right, it's a bit distracting. Otherwise great composure and focus.
