i see him, and if i wasn't really looking, i would have blasted right on by. this is not the best place for really subtle images.

It certainly is, and it's quite hard to see too.
;)
I'm thinking a low point of view angle may have been better here to make the toad stand out more by having a shallow depth of field, yet retain it's camouflage. The angle this was taken at really doesn't present itself in a very interesting manner.

Too well camouflaged for me! I would like to see a little more detail of the frog.

good thing you titled it what you did, I almost missed that little guy. The stick on the right really competes with the little frog dude.

Would like to see a little closer crop on the toad and a bit of sharpening. This is an interesting capture of how effectively nature works, however!

Maybe b+W would have worked better.

very hard to see where the toad is, as it looks just like dirt...

I see him, but he's not really that interesting especially for a best of 2006 challenge.

Uh-oh. I'm afraid in a challenge like this you may be getting killed. You may have already heard about there not being really any subject - or a way to discern it -- and the interruption of the light stick in the upper right detracts from maybe this looking like one of those texture shots.
