Looks like you have a beautiful dog!!:o) I think maybe positioning his paws in the lower left corner and the back end in the top right corner would have been a more interesting composition :o) You have captured some lovely detail but with the Best of Challenge there was a certain amount of WOW factor needed in the shots and unfortunately I think this is what is lacking here....this is just my opinion :o) |

Lighting is harsh and flat (try bouncing the light, or using off-camera flash), and it's quite an unflattering pose. |

This may be improved if you were closer to the dog's level instead of looking down on it. |

Nice dog, but nothing really stands out in this image other than the purple collar. The background is too bland for the color of the dog, the angle isn't interesting & there is an overall lack of contrast. |

Sorry, this just looked like a snapshot to me. Try getting lower, and shooting your subject from "dog level" -- lay down on the carpet and put your camera at the same level as the dog's head; you'll be amazed at the difference. |

A snapshot of the family pet in a Best of challenge will probabaly not score very high. There's nothing exceptional about the photography or the processing in this one. |

A tighter crop of the head and eyes to eliminate a lot of the background carpet would probably make this a more effective pet portrait and seem less like a snapshot. Good focus and exposure, though. |

What a cute pup! I wish this photo was crisper, and more alive. |

Snapshot of a dog on the carpet. The posing of the ears do little to help the image. |

Good shot, the dog is well focused, and the neutral background suits the photo. Such a shame his front paws are cut off. |

the flash is harsh and the composition not great with the cropped feet...carpet bg looks cheap and so, this looks more like a family snap than a contender for photo of the year...sorry :-( |

A nice looking dog, but this photo doesn't have that added 'thing' that makes me want to look at it again. The exposure is fine, but I think there are a number of things you could have done to inprove the photo:
- try experimenting with different angles and perspectives, perhaps lying down on the floor with the dog, or if you want to take one from above, coming in much closer - this would help to avoid the snapshot look.
- make sure your sharpest point of focus is the dog's eyes; here it appears to be further back, towards the shoulder.
-minor point, perhaps, but from the perspective of a 'non-doggy' person, the exposed ears look rather unsettling - you may want to think about ensuring they are flipped forward. |
