 This is my best friend's baby, Joaquin (pronounced HWAH-keen)on his 2 week birthday :) I'm sure you will see him a lot more since he's the first my first and only "baby model."

All of the editing I did would actually be considered legal in advanced editing. I rotated, cropped, adjusted: brightness, saturation, color and "pain daubs" filter, cloned the lower corners to "fill the frame", smudged, burned, and added the frame. The tint is a little orange in some corners and it might appear blown out on uncalibrated moniters, but hopefully voters won't mind that. I just think he looks so angelic! Even if they don't like the editing I did, I really don't care because I love the result. Hopefully others will too.

...okay, so there was that one member who did...so I guess you coulda thought that...hmmm (jk)

I actually didn't do any layers or vignetting like Bear_Music said...Truth is I still don't know how to do layers yet *ducks and runs!*
Nope, just one image with some burning in the corners.

As for it looking kind of fake (and apparently dead) I was going for an angelic painting sort of feel. I think I mostly acheived that. The lips do look a bit fake, but considering it was expert editing, I didn't think people would really care about that. Oh well, it's still one of MY personal favorites. Thanks for all of your comments :)

I think it's quite lovely, and like the high key/soft focus effect. Probably would have voted it a 7 or 8.

This child looks very much alive and pink and beautiful!
As an artist, I have no problems with artistic expression in every medium including photography..it is art, after all.

i believe you WERE robbed here. This is an amazing piece of work. It think you definitely acheived your "angelic" feel. I think it's wonderful and imo it should have scored higher. :)

I do not understand why this site does not seem to embrace those entries from members who can transform photographs into painting-like entries.

If the lips looked less painterly I think you would have done MUCH better. Voters want to be assured that the image is photographic first and foremost even if it's artistically processed. Since the lips are the only thing to gauge this (i.e. the detail) the voters are left with the impression that it's more painterly than anything else. If that makes sense. :) Mind you there is NOTHING wrong with this. In fact is pretty awesome but just my take on why it didn't score better.

Let me respond to that with: 1. I never said in my comment anything about layers, and 2. Vignetting = darkening the corners, so yeah you vignetted :-)

Your friend is lucky to have you taking shots of her baby, especially fabulous ones like this. I can just see the walls of her house plastered with your photos in a couple of years.

Sweet close-up; the essence of simplicity and innocence. Don't like the "painted" effect but do love the image, the crop/composition and the high key nature.

I like that you've completely filled the frame, only thing is I think this photo loses something since all the hair & chin are cut off. Great use of expert editing though.

Wow, that is just beautiful. The colors, the clarity, the composition - excellent. Fantastic job on the processing. 10 from me. I'll eat my hat if you don't get a ribbon, and I've not even seen all the entries yet.

A little bit creepy because the baby sort of looks dead, however, getting past that I believe the soft lighting is superb, and the lighting on the lips is fantastic. 10

Some area's seem to be to washed out. The lips give it almost an oil painting effect. Fills the frame.

You know it feels to me like this baby has passed on - the photo for some reason seems to not look like a sleeping baby. Can't put my finger on why, perhaps the processing. Good fill the frame though.

Wow, this is superb. Very very nicely done. You should do well in the challenge. The lips look a little fake. Almost if they were watercolor. Very very peaceful. Excellent job!

I find this very disturbing. The editing is superb but to me it looks like a dead baby. I hope this doesn't offend you but I showed it to 4 other people, and just said "what is your take on this" and they all said "dead baby." I wanted to make sure. It's powerful. 7

Oh man, that's EXQUISITE in its own way. I absolutely LOVE the processing here, especially the precise hint of vignetting in all 4 corners. I'll be very interested to see how this fares. keep me posted if you like, I am done with voting on this image :-)
