I have always admired my brother's artistic ability and he has been such a supporter of my interest in photography. So when this challenge came up I knew that it would be a good opportunity to pay homage to him! I used Adobe Photoshop to resize and desaturate.

This is an excellent image... I love the pencil sketch part of the photo. This is creatively impressive as well... My only critique would be the harsh lighting on the tip of the pencil... this may have been caused by the camera flash? Good shot :) - jmsetzler

Love the depth of field that focuses on the subject. Feels a bit oversharpened to me in the brightness of the wood on the pencil. Nice layout though.

one of the only good pictures of a pencil in use, nice job

There are quite a few photos of drawings this week. I have to wonder though, how many people are judging the drawing rather than the photo. This photo is very nice with the focus and the sharp tip of the pencil more obvious and clear than the drawing. This photo seems like a photo of a pencil, rather than a photo of a drawing that just happens to have a pencil in it. Great lighting and the angle is also very nice. Great job and good luck in the challenge.

Lovely sharp light on the pencil and definition in the finger whorls. Something about the composition doesn't quite work for me, it's something about the white space at the top left but I can't put my finger on it (no pun intended).

bummer, the shadow at lower left destroys (for me) an otherwise great image

nice picture (both). Compliments to your brother.

Others may disagree, but I'd have preferred more depth of field here.

This is good. Simple but effective.

The shadows from the flash are somewhat distracting, try a bounce flash, or other source of lighting 5 -lennier
