The idea was to capture an aroma from the steam curling up from a cup of coffee.

Unfortunately, normal brewing did not generate enough steam. So I put it into a pan where I brought it to a hard boil on the stove, poured that into the pot then immediately poured again into the cup while snapping pictures. I probably did this 25 times and had great fun spilling coffee all over the place. :)

I used the built-in flash on the camera that I tilted sideways to minimize overexposure in the center and thought the blue background might look good for showing the steam.

How did you manage to tilt sideways the built-in flash of an F717?

I love the swirls in the smoke, and the way you've captured this mid-pour. The ligting seems a bit harsh in that the glass reflects all sources.

I figured that there would be lots of coffee shots, and must say that this is nice! Love the rich colors, and the lovely steam, I can just smell it! Hmm.. it's actually making me want a cup of coffee! Pleasing composition, good lighting, and you conveyed the challenge subject quite well.

Excellent shot here! I love the blue background, the steam and the crop. The upper left steam swirled so perfectly; it looks like a cinnamon roll! Really cool. Great job. I gave this a 10.

Very good depiction of your smell/odor. It certainly reminds me of morning. I am giving it a 9 because IMHO I think the stream of coffee could use some work as far as lighting is concerned. It is distracting to see the diamonds of white from the lighting source you have used. All in all a great photo though. 9

Good job capturing my favorite beverage. Having all the steam makes it that much better a photo (aesthetically) too. I think it might have been good to have a bit more of the pot there, and maybe a cleaner background than this (I am not sure what the dark blue is here).

Excellent picture. Just a bit overexposed in the flowing coffee. the background works very well and makes the rest stand out.

Love how you managed to catch the steam from the coffee. How did you do that?? Hope it is in your photo description so I can read it when the challenge is closed.

Some of the shapes in the steam are lovely - I particularly like that little circular spiral towards the top left. Certainly conveys the smell of coffee to me. I like the choice of blue background.

These clouds od steam are wonderful! The blue light is remisicent of morning, everthing is fresh including the coffee. The glare on the glass is a bit distracting, I like the little flare of light on the pouring coffee. a favorite. 9

I like how this image captures all the scents and aroma's released when pouring the coffee. Very well done. Maybe a warm yellow/orange color instead of the blue would have given a better fit to the warmth of the coffee, but I must admit the blue is attractive as well. The purple glow of the coffee itself looks a bit strange, would have expected a bit more brown. Top 5 image for me.

The best of the coffe shots in this challenge. I'm almost gagging just looking at the picture (Just means I don't like the smell of coffe). Well done.

I thought the shots that showed vapor or smoke were most effectinve in conveying the impression of aroma. Excellent choice for this challenge. Focus was great, and the blue backdrop effective in keeping the viewer homed in on the subject.

Love the blue background and the wonderful swirls in the steam. Writing on the pot is a little distracting. Image is a little too compressed (distortions in the top left) Other than that, great image. Good luck!

Now that's some steaming hot coffee. I really like the swirl of the one smoke curl near the top, it's kinda cute. Not a fan of the composition, tho. Why did you decide to crop the bottom of the glass or the coffee pot? The smoke is good, the background is good, the glass is sharp and clear with not too many light reflections, it's just the crop that doesnt do much for it.
