For those who asked how did I get this with no children...just lucky! First I took some pictures of it, with nothing working well because if you crop out the kids you crop out the swings. Then just as I was about to leave the park, I noticed it was half empty. Just at the right time I got a shot with all empty seats!
Couldnt crop out the trees because I would lose seats. Couldn't have more trees because there were stores below. Yes I had to saturate because the sky was a little dull, but I feel it added to the look of the photo.
Thanks for all the comments!

I was going to take a picture of one of the rides at the carnival here, but it rained the whole time. Good job. I love the colors

Nice shot. Very bright colors and I can almost see the seats filled with kids. Good Job. 7.

I understand that the challenge is "without children", but it is still rather eerie to see this working without people in it. Great shot, excellent color and great composition.

This is one of my favourites - I love the colours and the movement. The overall composition is great - interesting. I like the trees along the lower edge too.

Awesome colors and composition. I love this! How'd you pull this off without having a child on one of those swings???? 10 Lisa

I thought for a real long time on this one. I really like the photo. The framing is perfect. The socus is terrific - just a bit of blur on the swings which is terrific. It was the colors that gave me cause for pause. They are brilliant. And that was my problem for a little while. I think the saturation must have been VERY boosted (I could be wrong, but that's my suspicion). I don't have a problem with that, but in this case I pondered for a long time whether it was to such a degree that it detracted from the realism of the photo. Ultimately, I decided that as a child you see the world differently - a world of colors brighter than they really are and life better than it really is, so I decided to let it work for me. I mention it only because if the challenge had been something else, my decision may have been different -- and that might be helpful knowledge to you as a photographer. Then again, it might not. Take what you can use, throw the rest away. :-) 9, just-married

Great job catching EMPTY seats! I like it.

I really like the composition of this photo. The colours are great also. Well captured :)

I really love the colors. A lower crop, showing more of the bright green trees, would be interesting. Unless you were trying to crop something out :o)
The chairs seem a tad out of focus. If you couldn't get a fast enough shot to freeze the motion then you might consider taking a slower one and taking advantage of the blur. Just a suggestion. I have no idea how it'd look.

Composition, color, lighting and focus all look great. The trees at the bottom are a tiny bit distracting, but I don't see any way around them! Great idea.

How did you manage to get that without any children in it?!
08/26/2002 11:33:00 PM
Wow I really like this one. Good colors and motion without bluriness.

Good job capturing one of these rides while nobody was on it -- nice work! (You bribed the carney folk to do that, didn't you?)
08/26/2002 08:51:00 PM
my favorite ride as a child!
08/26/2002 08:00:00 PM
absolutely beautiful color. The swings like that that are here, are old and crusty looking. I love the angle and frame filling of this and placement within the frame is also great. lighting is also beautiful. Don't think I'd change a thing. well thought out, well executed. Good luck in the challenge.

OK I am just going to be honest and say that there are way too many swings in this weeks challenge. Your photo is one of the best. It has action, color, and it is really easy to imagine children twirling around that ride. Great photo (8)

Looks like the blue was a bit too high in this photo, but I do like it. Would like to see the original after the challenge. Good subject, comp balance.. 6

That looks kinda like the swing ride at the Lagoon.
