 These things are plastic press studs. You break them off their little stem, then sew them onto the fabric.
Here is the set up:

By themselves, I figured the studs would be puzzling enough, but not very pretty, so I added the coloured background.
I used my Sigma macro lens, plus THREE Kenko extension tubes.
Very little post processing was done.

Very nice set up...Now I understand what it is that you were referring to. I don't do much sewing and had no idea what "Plastic Press Studs" are, but I do now.

Well you've got me stumped on this one, almost seems to be microscopic. I love the aray of colors, the bar has a little bit of wash out but it really isn't an issue. I can't even begin to guess what it is. Great job.
