This was the first conception I ever thought of when the Challenge topic was announced. I originally thought of using a tree with a diagonal leaf-line. I then used a suburban house with red tiled roof. But I was happiest with this.
The idea was to equally balance positive and negative space; to have them almost reversible in some way. A secondary thought was "window on the sky."
Since the challenge began, the ealier picture (//www.dpchallenge.com/image.asp?IMAGE_ID=3254) has been mentioned to me several times. I prefer chariot's picture as a photograph, but I prefer mine as an exemplar of negative space.
Many thanks for the kind comments. |

Nice composition. The diagonals are very effective. I also like the colouring. I don't know if you were aware of it when submitting the photo but there was a very similar photo in the "Free Study" challenge: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.asp?IMAGE_ID=3254 I score your photo on it's own merits but I think the other one is even better because of the dramatic sky. Also your photo seems to have some problems with JPEG compression (artefacts). -stephan |

Such a simple composition and very striking. Both abstract and recognisable at the same time. 7, Kavey |

Kinda a cool building. I like the contrast between the two blues. It looks like the site put speckles on the picture or something. If you ran a despeckle on it it may clear it up some. 6 |

I seem to remember a similar shot, in BW with clouds, in another challenge. Looks like there are some compression artifacts, and the file's only 48 kb |

I am afraid the contrast between sky and building is not great enough tof ully express this good idea. |

I like this. I believe that this could go both ways. if the subject is the building, then the sky is neg. space. if the building is the subject, then the sky is neg space. however, either way, the neg. space is very clear here. no mistaking it. I love the symetry. lighting, angle, framing and focus are all very nice. overall really nice photo. good luck in the challenge. ~hbunch7187~ |

this looks familiar :) it also give me the optical illusion that the image is tilted to the left? do you notice that? - jmsetzler |

I really like the corner to corner composition. Definitely meets the challenge IMO. Doesn't engage my interest otherwise. lhall-6 |
