Challenge: Backlighting III (Basic Editing)
Camera: Pentax *ist DS
Location: Dayton, OH
Date: Aug 19, 2007
Aperture: f22
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1 sec
Galleries: Nature
Date Uploaded: Aug 19, 2007

This is my first experiment with backlighting a subject without producing a silhouette. After my first test shot, I saw the potential of the thistle stem looking like lightening. Most of my shots were from the side of the flower to allow the stem to bend from the lower left corner to the upper right corner. Didn't like any of them and almost gave up on the shoot. Once I rotated the thistle towards the front, it only took three shots to get the look I envisioned. I'm sure I'll get comments regarding the intentional blown highlights.

Camera settings determined by the ambient light in the room to give detail to the thistle. Manually discharged my flash from behind just as the 2 sec timer activated the shutter.

A really lovely shot, but it looks more like side lighting than back. 6

nice pic but it looks noisey and like it was oversharpened.

Nicely lit but a flower with a black backround seems to be the theme of this challenge, needs something different.

Gentle, soft, stark, good composition, beautiful lighting from top left of subject. Nice photo! I like it. Does it qualify as back lighting. I seek to be enlightened! Post virginal voter - Totally Qualified rank amatauer photographer!
