Many small colored pepper corns and some rock salt in a yin yang pattern. Glued them on yin yang template that I printed out on a red background. Changed to a brighter red later with PSp. Used auto levels and Unsharp Mask.

Really awesome image. It just draws you in. I think i sat for a while just staring at the salt crystals. I thought they were white rice and the pepper corns were lentils or something vegan. I love it!! Nice work.

I am making an assumption here that you took out the background digitally. If that is the case, try shooting on colored cardboard or paper. The edges on the outside need some work. If I am assuming wrong, I apologise. I am giving a rating between the two.

Your salt crystals somehow remind me more of sugar crystals... Nice picture anyways

nice...especially effective with the course textures, instead of table salt and ground pepper.

Very creative! Cropping seems to be fairly even just by eyeballing it. Colors of the pepper look nice and clean. Salt crystals are white and detailed. The only thing I can complain about is the entire edge of the yin yang design. It appears that this was selected off a different background (obvious, I know) but the part I'm talking about is the sharp edge between the salt and pepper and it's very "edgy". If you applied a light feather to that and then slapped it on the background, it might look more natural and less edgy. Overall, an excellent entry. 8.

I'm surprised by how many shots like this are in the challenge. Yours is very good. Close up, well defined and good color/lighting.

I like the different color of pepper, teh red background/edge almost looks fake somehow.

Great concept but looks like you've lost detail in the corn by using harsh lighting. Overall I like.

Very nice, have you used a PS tool to clean up the edges? Really good colours, the yin and tyand symbols stand out well 8

The salt crystals and peppercorns produce a good texture. Unless the background was filled in with photoshop, the symbol appears to be floating, creating depth in an otherwise 2d view. Very nicely done.

A possible imprvement, if this was elevated from the background on glass would have been to give it some above-side lighting to cast a shadow for even more depth.

I like the closeup detail in this shot, as compared with the several other entries that attempted the same thing. The rock salt gives nice textural contrast to the whole peppercorns. I don't like the background though. I don't know if you masked it out but it looks very unnatual to me. I would have preferred a more appropriate setting for the subject and natural shadows.

Neat!! Something about the sharp edges of the pepper makes this look almost unnatural, not sure if a little soft focusing would help or not

Beautifully done, really nice detail and nice clean background the colour of which really complements the peppercorn reds.

Dam there has been a lot of salt and peper! Iteresting but there have been a couple of these that put in a lot more effort.
