Challenge: Working Without a Net (Basic Editing)
Camera: Kodak CX6330
Location: Portland, OR
Date: Aug 27, 2007
Date Uploaded: Aug 27, 2007

I was at the Saturday Market in Portland without my camera when I stumbled upon this street performer. The only camera available was a 3.1MP Kodak Easyshare that is probably 3-5 years old (it belongs to my mother-in-law). I had time to grab it, figure out how to turn it on, set to full auto, and grab a shot or two. There are, of course, some issues I wish I had advanced editing for (the glare from the blown sky and the performer's face blending with the dark part of the BG wall). Still, you gotta say there is no way this is DNMC and that's worth something on this site these days.

Prediction? 6.02 (at least I hope I keep my 6-streak alive, although I won't be too disappointed if it doesn't).

Previously there are two pictures on DPC taken with this camera above 5.0. There is a 6.1 and a 5.45. With a little luck the Kodak CX6330 will be "owned" by DrAchoo...

I really liked this, it's got a certain vitality to it, and I gave it an 8. I think you should keep using this camera from now on! :P

Congratulations Jason. You now OWN the CX6330. It just goes to show you that it's not the camera, it's the person using it.

Not sure if it visible to all, but it appears that there is a sun glare between the legs of the guy on the tight rope. Wished it wasn't visible to me as I think that it takes something away from it all. Nice shot though. 6

Nice capture - Like the tones - A much wider aperture may have given this more impact by making the artist pop from the background a little more.

Excellent shot right up to the lens flare or glare on the gentleman's legs and building upper left, in advanced editing that could be taken care of rather easily. Nice contrast/Sharpness/Detail on the rest of the shot. Great tones. I still give you high marks on this one.

I like the way (and position) that you've captured this performer in action. It fits quite well compositionally. The B/W tonal range is well covered. Glaring point of contention is the lens flare in the upper-left. Hard to avoid sometimes unfortunately. Overall, a pleasing photo. Good luck in the challenge.
