Challenge: Things That Go Together (Advanced Editing I)

Location: Pennsylvania
Date: Jan 31, 2004
Aperture: f8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/5.1
Galleries: Still Life, Black and White

Wanted to try a monochromatic close up shot (giving only enough of the items in the photo to let you know what they were). Removed color using adjustment. Cloned out reflections, unsharp mask and adjusted tones. Cropped and resized.

Very nice dynamic composition and crisp focus. Lots of interesting reflections and shapes - good one.

Nice the glare on the top left is distracting but the composition is very appealing and a very good DoF

well-composed close-up, i like the curves and the color that's almost black and white.

beautiful picture but doesn't fit "two things that go together" IMHO

I think i can claim to have some experience of photographing shiny cutlery ... compositionally I find this a touch weak - the relationship between the two things is rather arbitrary. The points of real contrast are in weak areas of the frame - either too low or too central, the balance of the 'weight' of them is heavily skewed in favour of the fork, the sharp lines are too sharp resulting in 'jaggies', and the reflections, in balance with the background, are so busy and not terribly well placed. All of which is, naturally, my opinion only.

interesting study of form, texture, and reflection in curves. I like the close crop.

Very clean and smooth! I'd prefer something more abstract for the reflected scene - it being sharp compliments the composition a lot. +9

Very nicely done. Fork/spoon/knife probably entered everyones mind on this challenge, but what a beautiful composition. Stunningly so.

Nice. Neatly done. The silver and sharpness actually give a wow factor here. The subject is a bit obvious for the challenge, but shot very nicely. 8
