Challenge: The Four Elements (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 5400
Location: Epping Forest
Date: Feb 10, 2004
Aperture: f/5.1
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/250
Date Uploaded: Feb 10, 2004

Working on the idea of the weight of areas of light and shade within an image, and the idea of non-conventional composition: the gut instinct is to crop that island to one side of frame, but this more centred composition has a greater sense of calm to it I feel.

I really liked this, surprised it didn't do better. Great shot!

A serene scene but a little overcast to appeal strongly to me. I also find the composition a little too centred and would be interested to see alternative shots of the same subject with different balances between water and sky, as well as different positions of the island within the frame.

I would've changed the toning to a definite sepia on this one. You're most of the way there now. I'd change the frame a little to by cropping some on the right side and a little of the bottom.

Nice atmosphere. Composition would have been better if the island were not smack in the middle, otherwise a nice picture

I like the muted colors and the lacy texture of the tree branches.

This is a great effort, but I ask myself if maybe you had entered this as a b&w photo it would have more impact? good luck

Mood is terric... it looks cold and lonely out there.

Great composition (needs a lighting punch to bring out interest in the water)

The picture seems a little hazy, playing with the levels gets rid of what looks like a yellowish tint making it darker. Also, a little sharper brings out more detail in the branches.

I like the picture, but I have two comments:
1) the island is the interesting thing in the picture - maybe put it somewhere more off center according to the rules of 3.
2) Since the sky is so burned out - maybe you should think to convert it to b&w or add some sepia tones.
