 The shoot: Bunch of straws in a glass set on a black cloth. Lighting was my usual desk lamp.

The digital darkroom: adjust the colors with gamma correction, adjusted brightness and contrast. Resized.

great saturation and color. Good background color and good DOF. I think this is a really good shot. I think the cropping is decent. i wonder what it would look like to have the center of the group of straw off to the side more or on a third.

I agree - straws are ordinary things that you can make it look extraordinary. I've seen this but is as great as them. Good Luck!
