Brian, I think the composition and pose are both nice. My guess about the score is that the hat and shirt are so dark as to basically punch visual holes in the image. Black is tough to light well enough to get a little texture or shape to it, so it comes off very two-dimensional.

Brian, I am not sure how this scored as low as it did, I think it is well composed and looks good. Do not give up the month is not over, there is still a chance.

You're looking good, Brian. I think this portrait is quite good. As a matter of fact I gave it an 8. I would have gone higher if there had been a bit more light. I really can't believe that there were 10 ones. There's nothing at all 'bad' about this.

Well, here's my two cents. :)

The lighting needs some work... the picture is a bit under-exposed. Secondly, it's hard to tell, but I think the image might be just slightly out of focus. Also, I would advise not cropping the subject's ear, and trying to create a more interesting composition. Excellent try though - I like what you were trying to capture here. :)
