An old abandoned building near the edge of a new housing development. The chair and all the wood and debris were in place for years. I just added the doll to provide an emotive touch - hopefully it does not look too 'set up'

Shot in RAW
Opened in CS2 and adjusted exposure, WB and sharpness. Save as JPEG. Opened in Elements 3.0, noise ninja, adjusted levels, hue saturation, USM at large radius for contrast and crop. Save for web. Opened and USM Save.

Post Challenge Thanks for all the great comments. Yes, the doll is too clean for the shot, but there are certain things that are out of bounds...and getting my wife's >40 year old Polish doll, that was given to her by her Grandmother when she was 2 years old, dirty and 'old looking' for a DPC challenge is one of those things...

OUTTAKES: Here were a couple of other shots I took - and these tended to make the doll look a little more 'old'....

A slightly darker, cooler image.

A wider perspective - Hot_Pixel liked this one best...and based on the 'clean doll' comments, I think it may have done better. I will listen to you next time!!!!

Peter

Great image and - what is becoming customary for you - a very impressive score and finish

I loved the broad range of earthtones in the shot and loved the elongated shadow of the chair. Great sharpness as well

Possibly for me the doll was a fraction of an overstatement but very cool nonetheless

Sorry to say I was a bit excited to see I beat you (albeit one place setting) in a challenge!

I think this definitely has such an emotive feel, I do like the outtakes a bit better though. I must admit your wife is a far more generous person than myself. I have just a couple of old dolls, and they barely leave the shelf. Looks like you've maintained her trust in you though.

Try reshooting with a Salvation Army doll (maybe missing hair and one limb, lol). This was a great image I felt.

Peter, I love this photo. It's perfect! I think you did the right think by keeping the doll clean. Even for a ribbon, some things are just more sacred :) And I think it is awesome just like it is.

Great image. I think the only improvement I could suggest is that cropping out about 10% on the far right might improve the comp a little for me.

Looks like a placed prop - The doll is too good condition for the concept to be believable...

the doll looks to clean it would have been better if it was old and distressed

A bittersweet photo. Good choice of dolll (if indeed it is a prop), it looks as old as the shack (although not as worn out). Come to think of it, maybe a tattered, dirty doll would fit the surroundings more.

Great idea, but the doll is too new and in good condition. Is a bad contrast with the house ruin.
