My wife and boys went skiing and I found myself setting up my camera on a tripod in the terrain park and shot a series of photos. Here is one of them, a couple of friends racing down the trail (and a third skier entering at the end of the frame). They 'showed' off for me, carving some deep turns and throwing snow. I think it came off pretty well, especially of the skier in blue/red.

1. Combination of 4 exposures of two skiers from the same location.
2. Opened individual RAW images in Elements 3.0
3. Adjusted each exposure +1.25, white balance set to cloudy.
4. Added a series of 3 layers to first image and added skier from each image into layer by erasing all but the skier on the added layers.
5. Flattened the layers.
6. Noise ninja
7. Adjusted levels, hue/saturation
8. Cropped to size
9. Save for web (720pixel)
10. Opened and USM at small radius
11. Adjusted Hue/Sat
12. Dodge snow in trees
13. Burn snow rooster
14. Save for web <200kb

7 from me, not only did you execute this well, but as a former PSIA ski instructor I can say so did your subject with his turns! this would work well in a "how to" manual with just one more inclusion b/tw skier images #1 & 2 as you go from foreground to back so we could see him ride thhat downhill ski!! :)

nice finish in a tough challenge..look at that commenters' score!

Peter, I loved this photograph and to be honest I am surprised that you only finished two places above me. Wonderful sense of progression that tells a story and great sharpness and colours.

Really fantastic shot that may not be on your front page but imo is a real keeper (and possible framer)

Timing is everything, is that what you're saying? Wonderful captures, very smooth and the processing is impeccable.

I like that you chose two different skiiers here, rather than just many pictures of one.

I hate skiers. He must be proud of this elegant little sequence though. Nicely done.

Great shot. I wish there was just one more in the middle to balance the shot. The snow is extremely clean!

scalvert: nope. looks like multiple skiers.

muckpond: looks like the same skier to me.

ursula: maybe they're all just wearing the same thing.

scalvert: the odds against that are huge.

ursula: maybe they called each other.

scalvert: ugh. guys don't do that.

muckpond: either way, it's not natural!

That is neat. Great idea and composition. I think the only thing I would do is bump your colors a little if it were possible

Now here's a ski shot I can get into. Great choice of captures to combine while leaving enough space between the skiers to convey a sense of motion and not clutter up the scene. Well done.

Great sequence here. I like the spacing as so many of these shots have people jumbled up. But you have done well here. The skier does look a bit soft or OOF though. 6.
