 I put a whopping couple of minutes into this effort, but I like the result so in it goes. This is a piece of cardstock with various colors of thread attached. Shot out of focus with lots of little circular motions of the camera during the exposure. Overhead light on in the room nearby. Set a custom white balance in camera (pointed randomly at the thread).

The colors are beautiful, but I see a complete lack of subject. Misses out on the "engaging and interesting" clause of the challenge.
