Thanks for the comments, they're very educational. I understand now that this image relies too much on the background and it can't stand strongly alone.
Deb, I like black and white more than colour, that's why I try to have the latter as less as possible. I just felt it that in this case colour would be a definit feature. I'll take your advise and try something similar in monochrome. I'll add some shadows as well, for Don's sake.
Thanks again... |

oh, I'm a dummy. I was thinking of the continent, not the moon. You have the right shape for a moon. Good job! |

I love the processing, colors and texture. This would have easily been a 6 from me. To get higher, I would want a more interesting shape, perhaps with shadows and showing more of the palm/hand. |

Well I gave it a 6 because i saw the patterns and it was something that made you stop and look for a minute. For my personal taste, there's nothing there to hold my interest past that moment of observation and that's why I think I did not give it a higher score. |

Nicely done! Love the texture and color. I'm no longer familiar with his work, I know I read it in high school, but that was lifetimes ago. It could very well be another world (or moon), viewed from so far overhead that all you can see are the roads and flatness. I like the circular fade off at the top. |

I'll have to admit I'm not that familiar with Clarke's writings - read some when I was much, much younger but not a lot lately. With your explanation, though, I can clearly see what you were trying to create, and in that vein I think you succeeded. Based on what you wrote in the thread, I can see what you mean about the leading edge - I do think you may want to try it with just a hint of blur there, then dissolving into focus in the lower center of the shot. And I'll suggest it, but given your explanation don't figure it's your thing, but do try it in B&W - maybe one of the warm gray tritones. (Bear in mind, of course, I'm a B&W kinda person.) |

Ahhh, love the title! Does look like the surface of Europa, doesn't it? |

The way you took this image makes it look like it could be anything. Nice choice in an angle |

Interesting idea. For me the color is off, there is light reflecting off the palm and the focus is off a little. |

the idea fits the challenge well, POV is not too interesting, the color is quite strange |

Cool. Almost too cool, color wise. Intersting patterns are right there "handy" somtimes! |

I don't see a pattern here as much as I see the absence of a pattern (randomness). |
